It's 8:18 right now. We're going to move on to this Saturday
when the Greater Washington
Region Heart Walk will bring the community together.
It's a powerful cause fighting heart
disease and stroke. And for one local survivor,
well, let's just say it's more than just taking
steps. It's about celebrating life,
celebrating strength, celebrating resilience. And she's
joining us now, stroke survivor and heart walker, Erin Adelakun.
Good to see you this morning.
Thank you for joining us.
Thank you for having me.
So tell me how your life changed,
first of all, based on what happened to you.
Thank you.
My life changed tremendously.
Six years ago, nine days after I had my daughter,
I had a massive hemorrhagic stroke.
And I couldn't.
I was in a medically induced coma
for three weeks
and I knew I was having a stroke because
As I remembered the acronym FAST,
Time to call 911.
And I thought I was too young to be having a stroke.
But stroke can happen
To anyone, any time.
And so I am walking.
The heart walk is so.
Special to me because I survived
and I'm just getting stronger and stronger and yes.
Erin, it's so good to see you. It's good to hear your story.
It's good to see you with that big
smile. We saw at the walk as well.
What is it like for you when you're at the walk and you see
not just other survivors,
but so many people who are there to support you and to.
To help those who have been impacted by this and then
to try to prevent it from happening to others.
Oh, no. It makes me feel overjoyed because
the education is getting out there.
So for.
When I do the mile walk,
there's three miles as well.
And so when I cross, like,
get to the end, there is a survivor.
And I think it's really good
that you're talking about
the power of the law,
Lane to pass through where they care
which I think is a very important
part of your work.
I think the power of the law
is just not there.
And I think that's
one of the most important things
that you're talking about,
for survivors and it makes me feel
and I think that's
also what you're talking about
in your book.
So I'm going to stop here and
just make sure that we're
getting everyone back to the
conversation.
so good because
And I'm just going to
start by thanking
our panelists,
our panelists on the show.
I did it,
And I think that's
just one of the things
I made it and I'm doing it so much.
that I think is really,
I think that's
why I'm so excited
that we're getting
so many people back.
And I think that's
really, really important.
So thank you so much
That has to be such an incredible feeling in that survival.
tunnel area as you get there
to the finish. Aaron, I hope you
have the best time this weekend.
For folks who want to take advantage
of this, you want to go down, you want to see Aaron, some other
survivors, and you just want to walk for a good cause,
or come down and celebrate the
festival, which gets underway at 8.30.
The walk starts at 10 o'clock. There's the
information. It is this Saturday,
and if you would still like to register, you can go to
greaterheartwalk.org and find
out greaterwashingtonheartwalk.com.
Thank you, Erin. Good luck to you,
and congratulations on all your progress so far.
I know you're going to have a great walk on Saturday.
Thank you so much.
