22 News is your local election headquarters
on top of all of the contested races that
Massachusetts voters will be casting their ballots on today.
There are also nine ballot
questions for voters to decide on.
That's right, and 22 News reporter Nick Antonakis
is live in studio with the breakdown of each of those questions.
Kaylee, Julia, as you said,
there are nine questions on the ballot
for this year's midterm elections. That's tied
for the most to ever appear on Massachusetts ballots since
the procedure was created back in
In 1918, the last time
The first time that there were nine was back in 1994.
Question one would expand the state's public records law,
ending the exemption that's currently in place
for the governor's office and the legislature.
Question two would allow lawmakers
for the Committee for Public Counsel Services
to form a union and bargain collectively.
Question three would change
the way primary elections work in the Bay State.
Creating a single primary for candidates of all party affiliations
with the top two winners advancing to the general election.
Question four would change the deadline for voters to register to vote,
allowing registration on election day itself
instead of the current registration cutoff 10 days before the election.
Question five would change the limit
on how much revenue the state can collect,
factoring in revenue collected from the state's fair share tax
...on incomes over $1 million.
We'll be right back.
Question 6 would allocate funding
from taxes collected on sporting goods
to protect water and nature in what would
be called the Nature for All Fund.
Question 7 would allow construction of single-family homes
on lots of at least 5,000 square feet in size.
Question 8 would ban the retail sale
and taxation of adult-use recreational marijuana.
And question 9 asks voters whether
or not to repeal the state's 2024 law
that tightened firearms regulations in Massachusetts.
Now, polls open this morning starting at 7 a.m.
