Bay State Health officially welcoming
the public to their newly named
Bay State Mercy Hospital.
Local and state officials sharing
the importance of the merger.
We've been competitors since the Civil War.
Now's the time to collaborate and work together for the community.
The merger of Mercy Medical Center
into Baystate Health is officially complete.
On November 1st, signs up around the campus off of Carew Street
detailing the new name, Baystate Mercy Hospital.
Months of preparation went into this moment,
ensuring a smooth transition.
With their new campus just a mile down the road,
it will open up more avenues for continuation of care in the community.
We'll work on ability to have patients that may be seen
in the emergency department at Bay State be admitted over at Mercy.
In addition, if there's a patient that can have,
if we have a bed at Mercy
and a patient in the Bay State ED can get directly into a bed at Mercy,
we will transfer the patient over to Mercy as well.
The merger also preserving a historical hospital.
Founded by the Sisters of Providence, a necessity for the community.
I know Bay State would have done yeoman work
to try to take on the overflow,
but there was no way that the professionals there could handle it.
And being able to preserve...
Mercy Hospital here is extremely important
that we have two well-respected hospitals.
State Senator Adam Gomez even commenting
on the importance of the two hospitals
when it came down to his own health journey,
going through a kidney transplant a couple of years ago.
This team brought to the table with a sense
of urgency that if we do not acquire this building.
That a lot of people, a lot of individuals
that seek medical care will not be able to seek that care.
A majority of the staff moving over
from Mercy Medical Center to Bay State Mercy.
Bay State Health President and CEO Peter Banco saying
the next step is to grow the campus of Bay State Mercy.
