Candidates who want to replace Brad
Raffensperger as Secretary of State,
Democrat Penny Bown-Reynolds and Republican Tim Fleming,
are making their last pitches to voters.
Fox 5's Christopher King is live in Decatur,
where Democrats held a get-out-the-vote rally tonight.
Christopher?
Courtney Rusk, they held that rally right here
at the DeKalb History Center.
The Secretary of State is one of the key races.
That office oversees every election in Georgia.
The Democrat and Republican running
for that office hold different views of how to do the job.
Democratic candidates rev up the crowd
for a final push before Election Day.
Let's make history.
The race for Georgia's Secretary of State right down to the wire.
Democratic Judge Penny Brown Reynolds faces off
against Republican State Representative Tim Fleming.
It's probably one of the most important offices that we have.
Tim Fleming for Georgia's Secretary of State
and vote the entire Republican ticket from the top to bottom.
Fleming is a two-term state lawmaker and the former Deputy Secretary
of State under then-Secretary Brian Kemp.
Brown Reynolds is a former Fulton County...
County judge and acting assistant secretary
for the USDA under the Biden administration.
I will be that independent voice.
Both candidates pledged to improve the state's voting system.
We need a secretary of state who will protect our elections.
Fleming is on a special committee
to help select Georgia's next voting system.
He's opposed the state's ballot marking devices,
and he wants to restrict no excuse absentee voting
while defending Georgia's voter ID laws.
Brown Reynolds wants to expand voter access.
Increase availability and access for those who are legal.
So I would like to see more drop boxes put back in.
I'd like to see an extension of our mail-in voters
and absentee voting time.
The office of the Secretary of State became
the focal point of President
Donald Trump's attempt to overturn the 2020 election.
Back then, the president tried
to pressure current secretary Brad Raffensperger to find 11,780 votes.
I'd hang up the phone
because there's nothing I would ever do that would make me go against
the Constitution that I've sworn to many times.
Now, we called and texted State Representative Tim Fleming.
A staffer said he was busy campaigning around the state all day
and it was hard to reach.
We are still trying.
We're live in Decatur, Christopher King, Fox 5 News.
All right, Christopher, thanks.
