Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys: A Legacy of Mediocrity?

Boy, here we go again with the Dallas Kardashians,
and I think that if you're a Dallas Cowboy
fan, here we go again.
We go through this absolute epic story
all year long on the Dallas Cowboys.
Jerry Jones at the beginning of the year,
pushing his chips all in, as he says.
He says this team is going to be one
of the best teams that he has constructed.
Made a comment that the Micah Parsons trade is in the same conversation
with the Herschel Walker trade that was dealt
by Jimmy Johnson years and years ago.
And here we go again.
They beat their nemesis.
They beat the Eagles last week, right?
Then what do they do?
They take on the Arizona Cardinals.
Now, don't tell me the Arizona Cardinals
are a good football organization.
They're run by the Bidwells.
The Bidwells have no idea how to build a football team.
The Cardinals are a train wreck.
They are constantly in the top 10 when it comes to drafting.
And here we go.
The Dallas Cowboys, in a game
that they could have took control of the NFC East, what do
they do?
They lay an egg, and here again is Jerry Jones.
Compromising what he thinks his decision
was on hiring of Brian Schottenheimer and he blames
the players that Jerry put on the roster.
Well I will say that a lot of people let Brian down today.
And so for whatever, this is 31 years of this,
we all, and that was a total, to use a cliche,
that was a total team effort out there for us.
And we, it's the ghost of Jimmy Johnson here, have to be,
have to be for our fans, have to be, we have to be better than
that when we can got our hands on the wind and then drop the ball.
Dude, I will say it one more time to you.
You're right.
Player accountability, it starts there.
But Jerry's accountability is the fact
that he believes that he hires the right coaches
for that football team.
Do you know, for 29 years,
Tom Landry was the only head football coach that the Dallas
Cowboys had ever had until they hired Jimmy Johnson.
And then after that, it's been a conveyor belt of mediocre hires.
What's been the one thing that Jerry is consummate with?
He doesn't invest in coaches with authority.
He doesn't invest in coaches
that will take command of his own locker room.
You want accountability by your players, Jerry?
How do you walk in a locker room and you look at Brian Schottenheimer
knowing he has no say over the locker room
and that Jerry Jones has complete say over the locker room?
How many owners have two radio shows a week?
In the city of Dallas, it explains what's going on.
Look, Jerry Jones has been the P.T. Barnum of the NFL.
He's expanded the league's awareness, the brand.
The Cowboys right now are the richest franchise in the entire world.
There is no doubt, as a businessman,
Jerry Jones will always be the greatest businessman
in NFL history.
As a football man, he has been the worst general manager for 30 years.
I've said this, the Jets have more playoff wins since 2000.
The Arizona Cardinals have more playoff wins since 2000.
The one consummate that you can blame
when it comes to the Cowboys' lack of success is the owner.
He is not a football man.
And it is now, without any other comments to be made here,
it is evident.
Name me one thing that he has done since Jerry had Jimmy
and Jimmy Johnson built that roster.
Yeah, they'll go, well, Barry Switzer was a doorman
for that Cowboy team that won that Super Bowl.
Those were all Jimmy's coaches.
Those were all Jimmy's players.
Every single one of those players that were put
on that football team was by Coach Jimmy Johnson.
And I'll say it again about how that team is being run.
Look, Jerry and the family,
they have done so many remarkable things for that Cowboy brand.
But as a football brand, if you're a fan,
there's no way you sit and look at that football team
and know any coach that ever takes that job knows
that they have any say in that locker room.
I'll make the comment to you also at that job.
That job is not a desirable job.
How can you be a coach when you're not allowed to coach?
He doesn't allow his coaches.
With any autonomy to take control of the most important thing
that you can have in your locker room.
That is the player's accountability.
You've got to hold people to accountability.
Jimmy used to put us all on the edges of our seats.
He always did that.
There was a sense of urgency in the building.
You watch that thing with Dak Prescott after the game?
Yeah, you know, it's kind of embarrassing.
It's this and that.
As long as Jerry Jones is alive, Cowboys will never win.
