Chiefs Broncos.
So this was essentially for first place in the AFC West.
The Broncos beat the Chiefs 28-24 with a goal line stand.
Denver erased an 11-point fourth quarter deficit.
They sacked Patrick Mahomes on fourth and goal on the final play
after the Chiefs got it all the way down there.
They stuffed them multiple times.
And it was just an incredible game for Denver.
Denver is now 6-2, their first.
Four straight wins for them.
Kansas City, they're still 5-2, not too bad.
Two straight losses for them, though, and now they're a half game back.
What do you make of this game?
I mean, obviously, it looked like the Chiefs were in control.
They were up 24-13.
They were cruising.
And then Denver, they just have
these little moments where they try to claw back.
And listen, I know this firsthand.
They did this against my Rams.
I mean, the Rams were up 16-0 in Denver, and the Rams blew that one.
The Chiefs up 11 in Denver.
They blow this one, too.
And this one had some pretty high stakes in it.
What are your thoughts of this Denver-Kansas City game?
Denver plays very, very well at home.
If you're looking for a reason why Denver
was even in this situation to begin with,
it's because Denver is awful on the road.
At home, they might be the best team in the league.
Problem is, you don't play all home games.
And I thought walking away from this game
was the same question I had going into this game.
Does the Patrick Mahomes magic still exist?
The fact that, by the way,
and if I see another gun run at something in goal,
I might fight my television.
That's a different conversation.
At this point, I'm asking myself,
does the Mahomes magic still exist?
Because this is the second week in a row
we've seen Kenneth Walker stifled,
and it's the second week in a row.
If you look at Patrick Mahomes' numbers,
his numbers look great.
When you watch the game...
There's absolutely no way pre-injury,
Patrick Mahomes doesn't find a way to score that touchdown
from the goal line with four shots at it.
It just doesn't happen.
And so for the Chiefs not being able to punch that ball in,
it really left me walking away from that game,
starting to question if the Mahomes magic still exists.
We saw guys with magic on Sunday.
I just didn't see Patrick Mahomes as one of those guys with magic.
Yeah, you know, Denver was stuffed.
They stuffed Casey twice from the one.
Yeah.
Sacked Mahomes, like I said, on fourth and goal.
KC actually outgained Denver 399 to 294.
And.
Kansas City, uncharacteristically,
they're always a team that has been pretty sound with penalties.
They had 11 penalties for 105 yards, and Denver only had six for 45.
So you look at a lot of...
And again, Patrick Mahomes threw for 300 yards.
Yeah, and Mahomes is now...
This is an incredible stat.
But Mahomes is now 80-3 when leading
by double digits in the fourth quarter.
Uh...
He was 80 and 2.
It's insane.
And Denver has won 15 straight one-score games
over the last two seasons, John.
Now, you remember how sometimes we talk about,
but one season, you can be so lucky
and you can win all these one-score games.
And then the next year, if you don't,
they're doing both.
They did it in two straight seasons.
That's my tagline.
Nobody wins close score games two years in a row.
They are defying that rule, like literally week after week.
And I can't keep saying this, but I will.
I walk away from that game really feeling like Kansas City
is now more of a team
than what they used to be, and that's Patrick Mahomes.
The stat that you read about him only having
two losses after being up double digits,
that's because he was legendary.
That's because with the ball in his hand,
no matter how much time is left,
if he's got the ball last, you're in trouble.
Like today, in Denver, he had the ball,
goal to go, and stifled.
And so a lot of things can factor into that.
Again, Denver's so good at home,
and you have to factor in that they actually made the plays
to keep them out of the end zone.
Kenneth Walker couldn't get into the end zone,
and it just kind of seems like everything is now,
with the Chiefs coming back down to reality,
and people have figured out the way that they want to play now
after the Seattle game with running the ball with Kenneth Walker,
and they're really starting to show that.
The league, the coordinators around
the league defensively may have figured that Kansas City's number out.
Yeah, and Denver went three
and out on all three of their third quarter drives,
and then they scored on both fourth quarter possessions,
which essentially was the game.
You know,
You mentioned it, but there's another part about this.
Harrison Butker, he missed another field goal on Sunday,
and he's missed 16 kicks since the start of last season,
which is the most by any kicker.
Over that span and he's missed six field goals this season and that's
already a career high like this has to be a concern at this point.
Right, John? I mean, you can't do it's much like the Rams
or it's like if you're going to be this good as a football team
and have that as your weak link, you can't be taken seriously.
I was trying to avoid this,
but now you don't walk me right into your doorstep and you open the door.
Look, man, when you when you when you when you do shady things,
shady things happen to you.
Okay?
Kansas City never stopped at the goal line
in the entirety of Patrick Mahomes' career.
As we stated, double-digit lead, at least they never collapsed.
Harrison Butker, just gold at one point in time.
Now you bring in Justin Tucker.
You bring in the towel dropper himself.
Now all of a sudden, things look weird for you.
Okay?
At some point, when you use all your goodwill up for that guy,
and all of a sudden you take the field on Sunday
and you just come up a little short.
You know, that feels like karma.
