Don't throw away a faded orchid spike just yet.
It could be the beginning of new orchid plants.
I will select two healthy dormant nodes
and try to awaken them to produce new orchid plants.
And here are the results after 70 days.
Two baby orchid plants have grown roots
and are thriving with healthy green growth.
Join me as we explore each step of propagating orchids
from this very faded flower spike.
First, I carefully cut
the flower spike off the mother plant.
Then,
I remove the unsuitable
dormant nodes and select
the two healthiest ones.
Next, I gently peel away
the protective outer layer of each dormant node.
I will select two
healthy dormant nodes
and try to awaken them
to produce new orchid plants.
Then, I use a clean
knife to trim both
cut ends of the
flower spike flat.
Now, I will prepare
an aloe vera
solution to soak
the dormant nodes
before propagation.
I select a fresh aloe vera leaf rich in gel,
cut it into small pieces, and put them into a blender.
Add about 300 milliliters
of water, then blend
the mixture until smooth.
Aloe vera contains
natural gel
with polysaccharides,
amino acids, vitamins,
and minerals.
It helps retain moisture very well
and supports plant care.
Next,
I strain out
the pulp
to obtain
a smoother
aloe vera
solution.
Then, I add one liter of water and stir well.
I soak the two flower spike sections
with dormant nodes in the solution, ensuring the
areas being treated are fully submerged.
Ihi remaining
solution
is poured into
a spray bottle
to be sprayed over
all the leaves.
Aloe vera gel can retain moisture
and also contains organic compounds
and antioxidants.
Some moisture and dissolved compounds may
be mildly absorbed through the leaf surface,
supporting the plant's metabolic processes.
Next, I slowly pour just enough solution over
the surface of the growing medium.
This helps the solution gently soak into the growing medium
and provide moisture to the root zone.
The organic compounds in aloe vera may
help provide some dissolved substances.
I avoid over-watering to prevent water logging
and keep the orchid's base dry and well-ventilated.
After soaking for about 15
minutes, I gently remove
the two orchid flower spike
sections from the solution.
Gently pat the surface of the flower spikes with a clean cloth
to remove excess moisture without damaging the dormant nodes.
Then, I apply a small amount
of cinnamon powder to both cut ends.
This helps the cut surfaces dry out,
but the cinnamon powder should not get on the dormant
nodes, as it
may dry out the
tender tissue.
For the growing medium,
I use treated coconut coir.
Before using it, I soak the coconut coir
in water to remove some of the tannins, making
it softer
and looser.
Soak for about 15 minutes.
After soaking, I rinse the coconut coir several times
with clean water to remove tannins and any remaining residues.
I gently squeeze the coconut coir
to remove excess water while
maintaining moderate moisture
and a loose, airy texture.
Next, I prepare a plastic cup with plenty
of drainage and ventilation holes.
I place the treated
coconut coir
into the cup.
Then, I gently place the two flower spike sections
with dormant nodes into the growing medium.
I cover the cup with a ventilated lid
and place it in a warm spot with indirect light.
Once a week, I mist the cuttings to maintain moisture
and prevent the flower spikes from
rotting.
After about a month, what I had been hoping for finally appeared.
The two dormant nodes have begun
to develop into two baby orchid plants,
with roots gradually
forming.
However, the baby orchids are still small,
so I will continue caring for them and monitoring
their
growth.
I continue to lightly spray the aloe vera solution onto
the plants and growing medium,
avoiding water accumulation.
After that, I continue waiting and
observing the changes in the two baby
orchid plants.
After 70 days, let's take
a look at the results achieved
by the two baby orchid plants.
Both have grown
larger with fresh
green leaves
and clearly
developed new roots.
It's wonderful
to see the two original dormant nodes have developed
into two healthy baby orchid plants.
Each plant has its own growth rate,
so patience and proper care are always very important.
I prepare two small pots with good drainage,
use pine bark as the growing medium, and gently
transfer each baby
orchid into its new pot.

and are ready to grow stronger and healthier
This is an interesting experience for orchid lovers
who want to try propagating orchids at home.
