Thousands lace up for 10th annual Running with the Devils 5K in West Orange

Well, 5Ks aren't uncommon, but it's not every day you see so many folks doing it in Devils merch. Around 3,000 runners took off in West Orange on Sunday for the Running with the Devils 5K. It's an annual event put on by the New Jersey Devils, along with RWJBarnabas Health. With all the proceeds headed towards community health care programs and services. Ten years strong. It started off the first one, there was 250 people here. Now there's over 3,000. It's an incredible event. It keeps getting bigger and bigger every year. We've raised collectively over the 10 years about a million dollars that we've plowed right into community health initiatives across the state. The course put these runners on a path around the Orange Reservoir, with some scenic fall foliage to match. But this is a devil's run. So, of course, they had local team mascots cheering them on, too, and even some Devils alumni who tell us it's been incredible to see so many people come to support. For us to get involved as alumni in the community, we love coming out to events like this and just being here, meeting the people, and getting them excited about the race. Lots of families out. It's a big family event. Lots of kids, all people of every age, so perfect day for it. So why aren't you guys running? Come on in. And as for those that did run... They say it was an honor to be a part of the event. I really love the energy here. I love seeing all the mascots here, like everyone rallying up, cheering everyone on. I think that's really amazing. It's really what running is about, putting together to support others, doing their best. Running with the Devils in West Orange. Jack Ford, News 12 New Jersey.
