Sunday afternoon: scattered showers linger in North Georgia

All right. Welcome back on this Sunday afternoon now.
I know I was going to say morning,
but afternoon now to get a check of our forecast.
Great outside, but not everyone's going to see rain, right?
Yeah. Yeah. No, we've had some scattered showers, but I think.
They're the nuisance type of showers where you don't have
to cancel your plans out, right?
You know, maybe get a couple raindrops
for a few minutes and then you carry on.
Good.
Yeah, I like that.
It's not too bad at all.
Let's talk about why we actually need more than we're going to get.
And this is the reason why here our map of the drought,
we get an update every Thursday.
And we obviously haven't gotten any improvements
because we went about three weeks without rain.
Now, we're faring a lot better than folks out toward
the west looking into Mississippi.
Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, even up into Tennessee,
much higher categories of drought are certainly in place,
but we've got a few pockets of severe drought in North Georgia.
That includes near Athens, Madison, Edenton,
that pocket right there between Noonan and LaGrange,
and also in the North Georgia mountains.
Today's rain doesn't even make a dent in this, but
Something coming along midweek could make a decent dent in it.
That's what we're going to hold our hopes on for the time being,
because up until today,
it was 21 days without measurable rain at Hartsfield Jackson.
The last time we got rain, it was actually because of Hurricane Isaias.
I guess the good news there is it
was enough rain that our deficit for October
isn't as big as it would otherwise
be going that many days without rain.
But we've got that deficit of over six
and a half inches so far for the year.
Could we maybe get an inch or two of rain by Wednesday into Thursday?
I do think that's possible.
We won't even get close today.
That's a look at Fox 5 Live Viper.
And it's just patches of light rain,
drizzle, a couple showers here and there.
The temperatures, a lot of them are starting
to move into the 60s now that we're into the
afternoon, but that's pretty much where
they're going to hold for the rest of the day.
And I just want to show you this bigger picture here
and pay attention to the rain across
northern Alabama, right on the Tennessee-Alabama line,
because the area outlined in yellow
is a moderate or heavier type of rain.
And you might notice there when that goes into motion,
the leading edge of that yellow
tries to get to north Georgia, and then it never does.
And that's just a really good sign here
that even rolling into the afternoon, we're
We do get additional rain.
It's probably not going to be high rainfall amounts.
When does it all wrap up, though?
That's the big question.
After a few showers today and early this evening.
It will dry out overnight so that Monday is partly sunny.
Tuesday, Election Day, might be a little cloudier.
I do have to put a small 20% chance of rain in Tuesday's forecast.
It is not going to be disruptive for Election Day.
The more disruptive weather actually rolls in Wednesday afternoon,
Wednesday night, and into Thursday.
And the big question we'll have to answer in the next couple
of days is will this bring severe storms along with it?
It will bring heavier rainfall amounts and maybe some thunder
and lightning, but some of those other details we'll iron out here.
early this week. There's a look at the rainfall chances.
Watch how they just completely fade
away by this evening. And then your seven-day forecast.
It's in the low 60s today, but we get
right back to the low 70s tomorrow.
And if you like those temperatures that are pretty mild for
early November, they last all week long.
They'll go into next weekend also, but just bracing
ourselves for our wettest and stormiest day to be Wednesday.
Oh!
Perfect. I'm off Wednesday, so I can enjoy.
I love a stormy day where you can just stay in the house
and not do anything. I see. We're on the same page. Yeah. All right.
