All right. Welcome back on this Sunday morning here
with Joanne Feldman. I know that all the
days are kind of going together here.
What is a cloudy day outside? I know. And it's easy to
get lost on what's happening right now.
I mean, we had three solid weeks where it didn't rain.
So all the days kind of blended together. Today's a little different.
So let's get to it here. I want to talk about that number right there.
The fact that we went 21 days without rain until we got
to the last 24 hours. So looking back at October, you know,
we did have Hurricane Isaias earlier in the month.
So that one big rain.
Kind of tied us over there for a bit.
That means for the month of October, we were running
a little less than a half an inch below normal on rainfall.
But when you add it into sort of the grand total for the entire year
and go back to January 1st,
we're over six and a half inches behind normal or average rain,
which naturally translates
to drought conditions still across the state.
But I wanted to start out on this wider view
because all of the red you see on the screen,
a couple of states west of us, that is a much more extreme
or exceptional drought compared to what we have here at home.
And yet we do still have parts of north Georgia outlined
in orange that fall in that severe category of drought.
That's why we need the rain that we're getting.
But I'm going to tell you right now,
the type of rain we're getting today is not really going
to make a substantial difference in the drought.
The rain that's coming later in the week,
that could make a bigger dent in the drought conditions.
But this is just sort of the big picture right now.
It looks really messy across the southeast,
but our reality here over north Georgia is that our
rain has been really limited to a few scattered showers here
and there, and certainly not a
blanket of rain that's affecting everyone.
Now, the clouds are basically blanketing the area and
impacting everyone, and that combined with that breeze
that you feel if you step outside, that's
going to keep things kind of cool today.
We've been in the 50s all morning. It's going to take
some time to even get to the low 60s for a little bit,
but I'll tell you right now, this is the
The coolest day that we will have.
Out of the next seven quite easily.
So at this hour, we're 59 in Atlanta.
We already have some 60s showing up out there.
Notice the lack of rain. There's just not much out there at the moment.
A little drizzly, a couple showers there just southeast of Dalton,
also on the Gilmer County line there west of Ellijay.
There's not going to be no thunder or lightning today,
just occasionally a nuisance rain shower.
A little bit of that's also gathered near Jasper and Putnam counties.
Nothing much to that, and things have quieted down
a little bit across Troup County.
We actually had quite a bit of rain earlier
this morning, so you're getting a break.
We're going to go forward in time just so you can see that when
and where it's not raining we're still going to keep the clouds around.
We could increase the rain there on the west side maybe late
this afternoon. But my plan here is that overnight the showers
are going to fall apart and tomorrow is a pretty nice day.
We'll have clouds and sun mixed together.
Same for Tuesday. Election day the chance of getting
a rain shower is really low which is not zero.
But I want to take you to this right here.
Here's Wednesday afternoon.
And what we're going to be watching for you here
this week and trying to narrow down is
what is the storm potential going to look like with this system?
It all depends on how this low pressure evolves
and where this warm front lines up.
Either way, I think late Wednesday and rolling into Thursday,
we'll have some pockets of heavy rain.
We could get some thunder and lightning.
We just need to see if this is also going to bring
a sort of severe weather threat along with it.
All right, that map just flew right on by.
If you got a glimpse of it really quickly there, though, you saw.
We saw that our highs are going to be in the low 60s today,
but dropping tonight back into the 50s, that is not all that chilly
for a November morning, and I think that's one thing that's going
to be pretty consistent over the next seven days is the fact
that we don't have anything unusually cold. If anything,
those overnight lows are going to get warmer Wednesday and Thursday.
The low is in the low 60s, and after today's cool afternoon,
we've got a long stretch of 70s back. It's just some days
that comes with rain and some days it comes with sunshine.
I do think next weekend, sunshine will kind
of make up for this weekend.
So we'll just have to be patient and get through that time in between.
Okay.
All right.
So if you were going to dress up for Halloween,
or you might have, what would you have been?
What would I have been?
Oh, you put me on the spot.
I did.
I know.
Did you dress up?
I did not dress up, but I feel like...
I had a funny one, which would have been, like, Little Richard.
I feel like that's, like, a funny one.
But I've seen a lot of Scooby-Doos this year, like a lot of,
like, Scooby-Doo gangs that have taken place this year.
I ask that because we've been getting so many,
like, good Halloween photos.
I know.
I said some of my favorites I've done in the past, my husband and I,
if you've ever seen the movie Stepbrothers with Will Ferrell
and John C. Reilly, we were the stepbrothers.
That's a good one.
And I was Marge Simpson to his Homer Simpson one year.
Did you do the voice?
No, I can't do that.
I had the blue beehive.
It was really awesome.
Send your pictures in that one.
We're over there.
I was trying to point to the thing,
the little QR code that's here.
Oh, gosh, I can't do it either.
I know.
It's hard.
There you go.
Send those pictures in.
We've already gotten a lot of good ones out there,
and we'll share them throughout the day.
All right, Joanne, thanks so much.
