Ukrainian drones have struck more than 100 Russian trains used for military logistics, including fuel transportation, as Ukraine intensifies attacks on railway supply routes supporting Moscow’s frontline forces. According to Ukraine’s 1st National Guard Corps “Azov”, the strikes have disabled locomotives, fuel tank cars, and other railway equipment used to support Russian military operations in occupied eastern Ukraine. The corps released footage showing drone attacks on Russian railway assets, highlighting an ongoing campaign to disrupt the transportation networks supplying Moscow’s frontline forces.

Ukrainian drone operations have reached railway junctions in Russian-occupied Volnovakha, Debaltseve, Yasynuvata, Yenakiieve, and Dovzhanske, extending beyond areas immediately adjacent to the front line.

These railway hubs form part of the supply network used to transport fuel, ammunition, and military equipment to Russian forces operating in eastern Ukraine.

According to Azov, Russian troops have deployed mobile air defense teams and electronic warfare systems to protect railway routes, but these measures have not prevented Ukrainian drones from striking trains and railway equipment.

Fuel transportation remains a particular focus of the campaign. By targeting locomotives and tanker cars, Ukrainian forces aim to restrict fuel deliveries to Russian armored vehicles, military trucks, and other equipment operating near the front.

Azov also credited the Come Back Alive Foundation and individual donors for providing 440 Starlink Mini satellite communication terminals, which help Ukrainian drone units maintain communications during operations far from their positions.

The railway strikes come amid a broader Ukrainian campaign targeting Russia’s military supply chains and defense industry. On October 24–25, Ukrainian drones and missiles struck five Russian defense-related facilities producing components for Iskander missiles, air defense systems, and other military equipment. The attacks are part of Ukraine’s efforts to disrupt Moscow’s weapons production and frontline logistics. The strikes were carried out using Ukrainian drones and missiles, as well as British-supplied Storm Shadow cruise missiles. This combination once again demonstrates the importance of cooperation between Ukrainian weapons manufacturers and Western military assistance. As deliveries of interceptor missiles for Ukraine’s Patriot air defense systems face delays, Ukrainian forces are pursuing an asymmetric strategy: trying to ensure that Moscow has no missiles left to launch in the first place.

The campaign of the past month is not an isolated effort but a continuation of operations that have been underway since the beginning of the war.

Ukraine intensified its campaign targeting Russian missile factories in March 2026 with a strike on the Kremniy El plant in Bryansk. In total, six strategic factories were targeted in the early months of the year. Among the most significant targets were Alabuga in Tatarstan, Russia’s main Shahed drone production hub; the Tambov Gunpowder Plant; the Sverdlov Plant; the Krasnozavodsk Chemical Plant; and the Energia facility in Yelets.

Overall, Ukrainian forces carried out around a dozen successful strikes against Russian defense industry facilities in the first half of 2026.
