Auburn police have released video showing officer
Andrew Bryant repeatedly punching a man Wednesday.
Bryant is on administrative leave,
while the man's family says he suffered a concussion and body trauma.
Fox 13's Dan Griffin breaks down this new footage
and has the latest on the investigation.
Auburn police released several video clips for transparency,
promising a thorough
and impartial investigation into officer Andrew Bryant's actions.
Hey, you're under arrest. Get on the ground.
Do it now. Get on the ground.
Hey, you're under arrest. It's the Auburn police.
Officer Andrew Bryant responded Wednesday to reports
of a man trying to get into vehicles on Auburn Way North.
He encountered Mauro Alberto Felix Valles,
according to the man's family.
Get on the ground right now or you're going to get tased.
Hey, get on the ground right now.
The stop escalated quickly.
Hey, stay on the ground. You're under arrest.
Stay on the ground.
Hey, get on the ground.
Hey, get on the
ground right now.
The body cam is knocked loose,
recording grunts, strikes, and Valles screaming.
The cruiser camera shows the ongoing fight.
Stop grabbing my gear.
A traffic camera captured more than two dozen punches
to the head. Cars pass as the
strikes continue, one after another.
Police say Bryant struck him to force him to roll
over and be handcuffed.
Backup arrived, taking Valles into custody and finding Bryant with
bloodied hands. Can you roll my sleeves back in?
So I at least looked cool.
Bryant later recounted the struggle.
At one point I felt him, I think he grabbed my gun.
Not 100% sure, I think he tried to
or did grab at least my holster.
So I started just delivering strikes.
Until he stopped.
I was just close.
I was like, if he's about to be carjacked,
I know how to solve that, so.
Police say the man you see on the ground here,
who family members say is Valles, was
cited with non-felony drug possession,
disorderly conduct, obstruction, and attempted third
degree assault, and booked into jail after he
was released from the hospital.
His family says he is out now with a concussion and body trauma.
Well, this will be one for the books.
Now, Bryant is on administrative leave
while Auburn police conduct a full investigation.
We are told his disciplinary history includes just
a self-reported vehicle crash that led to coaching and counseling.
We're also told that Renton police will conduct
an independent review to see if he violated any criminal law.
