AI GeneratedLocal leaders and law enforcement are investigating an act of hate in Orange County after swastikas were discovered spray-painted on trees near an early voting site at the Taft Community Center. Officials have since covered the symbols and emphasized that such intimidation will not be tolerated or allowed to discourage citizens from exercising their right to vote.
Polling places are on edge after a stretch of trees were spray painted
with swastikas right near an early voting site in Orange County.
We've blurred all of them out right here.
As Fox 35's Marie Ettinger explains,
local leaders are calling this an act of hate.
The Orange County Supervisor of Elections says she
and a team were going around to all the different early voting sites
when they noticed the swastikas painted on these trees right
by the Taft Community Center. Now the county was able to come in today
and cover them up, but the supervisor says they still don't know
who did this or how long those swastikas were actually
on these trees before she was able to intervene.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office says they are investigating
and the supervisor told me today she
does not want this to discourage voters.
She feels symbols of hate like this are not welcome
anywhere but especially not by an early voting site.
We were all shocked as we drove past it
and we're like this this is not acceptable.
Voter intimidation is unlawful and we will protect
people's right to vote free of threats
or intimidation and we've been working really
hard to make sure that all of our voting locations are welcoming
and safe places to come vote.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office
said they don't have many details
to share just yet because this
is an active investigation.
In Orange County,
