So Treat Accessibly started in 2017 out of Toronto.
A young girl had asked her dad how a boy
in a wheelchair was supposed to trick-or-treat as
all the homes in the neighbourhood had stairs.
And so the event was created from that. This year
is a little bit different. We're being one
of the streets that is recognized nationally for
supporting Treat Accessibly.
And so our event this year is on Halloween from 4 to 6 pm.
So we're asking people to be mindful of that,
that we have our special friends coming out from 4 to 6,
and we might just need some extra kindness
and some space and some patience
while those children are navigating through the streets
before the crowds are really fully here.
We want the children to come. We want to see them.
We hope the snow is gone. I hope it is. I hope it's a wonderful day.
I hope all of our children who would participate in Treat Accessibly
are able to still come out, even
though it looks again a little different this year,
and I hope they're able to come and participate.
Because that's really most important and I think
that is what neighbours really talk about is just seeing the smiles
and the laughter and the excitement from all of the children.
