It is the final day of early voting
and across Central Texas voters are making
one last push to the polls before election day.
Fox 7 Austin's Juliana Jackson shows us
how turnout is shaping up
and why some voters say exercising their right to vote is so important.
With voter turnout already reaching hundreds of thousands of voters,
voters tell us that they want to have
a say in this year's midterm election.
It's my right as a citizen and important to vote
and be a participant in your own democracy.
In Travis County, nearly 380,000 people have already cast
their ballots in person, about
40% of registered voters.
In Williamson County, voters have
also been heading out to the polls throughout the early
voting period.
I think the patterns are broadly consistent with what we've expected.
We saw strong turnout back
in the spring during both parties' primaries.
We know that Democratic voters,
especially the Democratic base, are really fired up to get out
and deliver a message of rebuke to the Trump administration.
I think the big question going into Election Day is...
Are Republicans able to match that enthusiasm
and get their voters to the polls in similar numbers?
With races for governor, U.S. Senate, and several local offices
on the ballot, voters say there's a lot at stake for this year.
For the same reasons I went out, because we are blessed to be in
a country where we have the right to exercise our right to vote.
Most early voting locations close at 7 on Friday,
with select Travis County locations open until 10.
The next chance to vote will be Election Day, Tuesday, November 3rd.
Our future depends on us electing people who will represent us.
As a reminder, you can vote anywhere
in the county that you're registered in.
And although it's Halloween,
you can wear appropriate and non-partisan costumes to the voting polls.
