Okay. Thankfully, we have been able to reconnect with my colleague,
Stephanie Bertini. She's got
her Halloween costume on.
She is at a very elaborate display, one of many on the Upper East
Side. Hey there, Steph. You look fantastic. Hey, Linda.
Thank you. Thank you so much. I did dress like a scarecrow,
as you can see, and I've been hopping around and I'm here.
Although I don't match the theme, you've got to take a look at this.
We are on the Upper East Side. Look at this installation.
I mean, this is art. This is the Titanic after it sank.
Look at the detail here. Marcella Heimowitz.
She is responsible for all this.
She's our neighbor here on the Upper East Side.
And I say neighbor, Marcella, you know
our studio is on the Upper East Side, right?
Yes, I do, right?
Thank you for being with us on Newsroom Live and compliments to this.
I mean, a lot of people are telling you, I know that.
Yeah, thank you so much.
So you do something every year. What was the inspiration this year?
Well, my six-year-old son and my husband
were watching Titanic in August this year, and
after he saw it for the first time,
he watched it every single day for the rest of the month,
and he turned to me and he said, Mommy,
I want to be Jack for Halloween.
So I sat there, and usually August
is when I start thinking about what I'm going to do
with the house, and I really was racking my brain this year.
I've done so many things over the past 10 years
and I was really out of it.
ideas. And he turned to me when he said that I was like,
that's what we're doing. We're doing
a Titanic theme. And he is going to be dressing like Jack tomorrow.
I already got the sneak peek.
I got to tell you guys. So yeah.
Every year, you you you you brainstorm months in advance,
as you said this year in August.
I mean, there's a lot of work that goes into this.
Yeah, it's a lot of work. I start ordering a lot of it's from Amazon.
Some of the things I had to source,
like I knew I wanted to do the musician.
So I went on eBay. I found old used instruments,
some that like need a lot of love in order to bring them back.
So I thought this was a great use of them. And then we start.
Like, a couple weeks into September,
we set everything up in my basement, my studio,
and we get the hot glue guns out, we start layering.
Little by little.
Little by little, it comes together.
So, I...
I asked you this before we went live here,
but I got to ask you for everyone, because
this is super interesting.
A lot of people know about this house.
You might not know exactly where it is,
but you could find it if you check on every corner
on the Upper East Side.
But you're going viral this year.
Does this happen every year, I asked you?
No, it's never happened.
I decorate for Halloween
and Christmas every year for the past 15 years, and we've never
been this crazy.
I've done some really over-the-top themes,
but it's never hit, and this year, I don't
know.
What we don't see here in the camera's view is everybody kind
of stopping by taking pictures just behind our lens.
Let's step out of the way, Marcella,
for just a sec so we can show this off a little bit.
I mean, Linda, if you look at the detail here, I mean, this is making
me wish I know this is making me wish that I came dressed in theme.
I mean, this is this is absolutely remarkable.
And I mean, Marcella, you're getting people
that you've never seen in your life stopping by, I'm sure.
Oh yeah, there's so many people every single day,
but people really appreciate all the details,
like what you were saying. We have the heart of the ocean on one of our
Girls, we have...
It's hidden here.
I saw it.
I saw it.
We have the clock.
There's a clock in here.
It stopped at 2.20.
That's the time the Titanic sank.
There's the captain at the top.
There's Cal.
There's Rose's mom.
There's all these little details.
There's pieces of the dining room,
broken plates, chandelier on the bottom, a bell.
So, um...
And if they find it tomorrow,
we know that you could see the live jack because...
Your little six-year-old will be dressed to match
and your other kids, they're not
matching the theme, so I don't feel so bad.
The older kids are too cool, they're doing their thing, right?
One more question for you, Marcella, again,
thanks so much for being with us here on Newsroom
Live.
What makes you feel good?
I mean, I know you're a mom, so you do this for the kids,
but there's got to be a community
component here too.
Yeah, of course.
I feel like it's like,
It's like making the community like better, like happiness, the smile.
Yeah, yeah.
Everyone who walks by wants to take a photo, wants to smile.
And it just, I don't know, even my neighbors, they all love it.
Linda, do you have a question for her?
I mean, this is remarkable.
I really, I have a quick question.
And then unfortunately, we got to get going.
But I mean, ask her, how long did it take them
to put up these decorations?
Because the attention to detail is incredible.
Yeah.
So, our host is asking, how long did it take
because she's looking at the attention to detail here?
So, I started prepping it with my kids
in my basement about a week before we did the install.
And then the actual install
to get it secured onto the house was five days.
I mean, this is something else.
Marcella.
Yeah, I know, Linda.
I know.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
And happy Halloween.
Happy Halloween.
throwing it back to you.
