67-meter or 220-foot space rock has a good chance of hitting our moon.
Scientists won't know
if they should nuke NEO Near-Earth Object 2024 YR4 until it's too late.
The space rock, known as Asteroid 2024 YR4,
currently has a 30% chance of hitting the moon.
In 2032, a figure that could change, as in increase,
to 100% based on up-and-coming observations.
The probability of 2024 YR4 hitting the moon
was about 4%, but new information has scientists
fearing it may impact the moon in 2032,
which could be devastating for Earth.
The problem is that scientists will not be able
to confirm a moon impact till February 2026
when they get a small window to better calculate
the actual chances of impact.
Now this is a 67-meter or 220-foot space rock
but a 20-story building. If it were to hit the
moon it could cause a crater a mile wide,
shower earth with lunar shrapnel,
Potentially affecting satellites and rain debris on Earth itself.
And, well, they're going to know more in February 2026.
Although that's not a close flyby, they will have one in 2028.
Not extremely close, but fairly close,
where they could take a shot at the space rock
to actually change its orbit.
But then, of course, you'd always have a chance that...
That rock would break up,
and some of that debris would actually head towards Earth.
Now, folks, what are they going to do?
Well, I did look at JPL's orbit, 4th,
2032, and they have it as a direct hit.
They have it 920 miles from the center of the moon,
and the moon is 2,100 miles in diameter.
Which makes that a direct hit
and that's where the information has it today.
I did do all the math and if the math stays the same
or as it is now on the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's orbital sheets
Then this rock will
be hitting the moon in 2032.
And we're going to have big problems.
I think all you guys know how dependent life here
on Earth is from this moon.
It makes, well, everything much calmer.
That moon stands in place.
Although they don't think that rock's going
to move the moon or destroy the moon,
they are worried about a large impact.
God bless.
