Christa Pike said in a statement on Friday that she is recovering but had been deeply hurt by the incompetence after her botched execution.
Into the newsroom, Krista Pike has released
her first statement since surviving a botched
execution in Tennessee.
It was dictated to her legal team, and she said she went into
the execution chamber prepared to die in peace
and then woke up alone and confused in a hospital
bed. Pike went on to say, quote,
that there hasn't been a moment since that night when I
haven't been in pain. My body hurts. My arms hurt.
My hands hurt. My throat hurts. I still
I still struggle to speak.
And the pain isn't just physical, there's pain in my mind
and in my soul, and for now, she's trying to heal one day at a time.
The statement also says that she is deeply hurt by the incompetence
involved in her execution attempt on September 30th.
As a result, executions have been temporarily halted in Tennessee,
and an independent review is now underway.
