This report covers a recent incident in New York where a man was arrested for a serious crime, sparking discussions about legal accountability. We explore the justice system and question if there are indeed double standards in how certain acts are prosecuted, especially concerning criminal justice.
James Kaufman will lose report today.
Why is it assault if you spit on a cop but not a white female?
Ladies, I'm asking because you're voting yourselves into a corner here.
A 45-year-old Brooklyn man, Anthony Keynes,
was arrested on November 13th for allegedly spitting
the faces of multiple white women in a series
of racially motivated attacks in Williamsburg and Greenpoint.
Why wasn't this a, well, a hate crime?
Despite facing multiple charges,
including aggravated harassment based on race, religion, or creed,
Keynes was released the following day under supervised release
with an ankle monitor after pleading not guilty.
The incidents occurred over a two-day period, November 11th and 12th.
According to a report from the New York Post, Keynes targeted
four white females in separate attacks without provocation.
One victim was spat on outside 285 Broadway at 10.05
a.m. in the morning, November 11th, another at Bedford Avenue
and Grand Street, less than two hours later,
a third at Macy's Avenue and South 4th Street at 10.40.
And a fourth lady outside 186 Grand Street at 8 a.m. the next morning.
Victims described feeling violated
and stunned by the unprovoked assaults.
Now, my understanding is if you spit on a policeman
or anyone working for the governor of the city, it's a felony.
Well, not for this gentleman.
He did it four times and he's going to keep spitting.
These charges are classified as misdemeanors.
The top charge being aggravated harassment in the second degree.
If there had been a felony, he might have been held overnight.
But we all know if he spent on a judge
who had been ten years to life under New York's bail reform laws,
judges were unable to hold him on grounds of risk to the community.
Well, leading to his quick release.
Good thing he didn't spit on me,
because I would have solved it all right there on the
pavement when he had met my friends.
Yes, Smith and Wesson.
God bless, guys.
