No question about it.
It's that time of the year now where I got
to start putting my candidates together for
my Heisman Trophy vote.
And each and every single year, I go through this process now.
And I look at, and by the way,
I know people see the emblem on my shirt and they say, well,
University of Miami, he's obviously going to go for Miami guys.
That's not the case.
I was always a guy that believed because back in the day,
I want to give justice to the
players who deserve it.
And for me, I even voted for Tim Tebow back in the day.
Florida Gator. I voted for him twice,
actually, for the Heisman Trophy. I voted for
Cam Newton when he was at Auburn.
I like giving the award to the player that I think is the most
deserving, and really one of the most deserving awards
in all of American sports is the Heisman
Trophy. Let's start it off here with my top five here.
This kid, Jesse LeGray, here from Oregon
State. I guess Messamaker, too,
obviously going in from North Texas to going into Oregon State
here has really made the difference
but this kid here is on pace look at that number at the bottom
148 yards receiving a game this kid's got 46
catches he's averaging 22 yards a catch I mean
it's incredible in what he's doing there
with these 14 touchdowns there is no doubt he's also
signed to go back next year and go back to Corvallis there
and play there for the Oregon
State. Beaver's there.
So again, I think this kid's having a spectacular year. At number four,
look, got a big game coming up in a couple of weeks.
I got CJ Carr, the quarterback from Notre
Dame. I got him there. I think that he has had a really good year.
I think the completion percentage
is high. I think his numbers are great.
I think he commands that offense. There's a lot of weapons
on that Notre Dame offense.
I think they got a great running game and I think they got one of
the best offensive lines in all of pro football,
and I think C.J. Carr is in that conversation to go to New York.
At number three, listen, I got Malachi Toney.
He is the greatest wide receiver
the University of Miami has ever produced.
That means Michael Irvin, Andre Johnson.
That means Santana Moss.
That means so many legendary players that have played at that program.
That's just not me talking.
Michael Irvin's at the games.
You guys see him on the sidelines each and every single week.
He's the best player we've ever had.
And you want to hear something wild?
He's 18 years old.
A year ago, when he was making catches against Notre Dame,
he was 17 years old.
He's a community kid.
One of the best things we have had
in over 20 years at that program is having a local
star giving back to the community.
And Malachi Toney is a great representative
for the University of Miami.
He is having a spectacular year,
and I do think he's going to make it to New York and
be one of the finalists here.
At number two, another Kane, Darian Mensah.
Take a look at the completion percentage, 81.4.
I happen to be in agreement with a lot of people.
I want to see this football team play an elite program.
I want to see them play a top-flight school.
I want to see them.
Now, look, Wake Forest is much better than what people thought.
And for me, when they struggled against them a little bit,
I was like, Wake Forest?
Wake Forest is not that bad.
However, that's not the elite of the elite.
That's not one of the teams that are going to be the 12 teams
that are going to make it to the football playoffs.
That's not going to be down that lane.
I'm with everyone.
I want to see Miami in two weeks.
And again, I think this weekend's game on Halloween night against UNC,
don't let it be a trap game.
I think Belichick's going to throw some things at them this weekend.
And let's see how Darian Mensah and Malachi Toney,
let's see how they respond.
Look, right now, unless something catastrophic happens,
God forbid, Jeremiah Smith is the
best player in the country.
Jeremiah Smith, the wide receiver at Ohio State,
is not only the best player in the
country, he may be one of the top 10 players
in the history of college football.
I mean, he may go down as the greatest Ohio State Buckeye of all time.
We're not just talking about, well,
this guy's going to turn out to be a really great player.
He's going to be like a Chris Carter, a Hall of Fame.
I'm talking about him being the best football player
that's ever played in college football.
It is just incredible.
It's incredible on where he is.
Here's the odds right there on the Heisman Trophy, too.
As you can see, I'm with those odds.
Unless something crazy happens,
Jeremiah Smith has got my vote for the Heisman.
He's got my vote for the Walter Camp Player of the Year.
He's got my vote for the Biletnikoff.
He's got my vote for every single Consensus All-American football team.
There is no question he's going
to go down as one of the truly greatest.
Now, you got a Heisman game coming up in two weeks
for both Darian Mensah and for Malachi
Toney.
If those guys go into that ball game against Notre Dame,
and let's just say Malachi Toney
He puts up 200 yards in receiving yards.
Then we're going to start having a conversation
where those votes may get a little shaky on Jeremiah Smith's side.
Same with Darian Mensah.
That game in two weeks is going to mean a lot.
