Temple University police are investigating another reported rape
at an off-campus apartment involving two students who know each other,
one of the students reporting the other.
Temple officials also say they're investigating separate reports
of a man with no ties to the university exposing himself
at the student center.
Our Jill Croce reports.
Both Temple University alerts for the alleged off-campus sex assault
and the man exposing himself at the student center
were shared with students on Monday.
Temple University police are continuing
their investigation after reports of a man exposing himself
at the student center while also working directly with a student
who reported the latest off-campus sexual assault.
The university's daily crime log says Sunday's alleged assault occurred
at the Avery Philly Apartments and was reported early Monday.
This comes just over a week after students
were alerted of another off-campus sexual assault
on October 10th at the University Village building.
We checked the crime log and found there had
been five other indecent assault investigations since late August.
This week's notice says the two involved over
the weekend knew each other.
It was an opportunity for the university to send out the message,
really about we want people to report.
We want people to feel comfortable to report, and we want
to make sure that people that do report, we can give them services.
It's so important. We don't want people
to go through these types of things alone.
Though specifics from this weekend can't
be shared, the notice says, quote,
Reports like this one are addressed through applicable law enforcement
and university processes.
Those found responsible are held accountable.
There's a lot going on in the world and in the country right now
when it comes to sexual harassment and assault.
So I feel like as a woman, I'm definitely feeling on edge.
And so I'm always aware of my surroundings and I'm never really alone.
I think I'm going to be more careful just being off campus,
especially late at night.
The same notice also alerts the man still at large
for recently exposing himself at the Howard Gittes Student Center has
no association with the university.
In the meantime, students can expect more security walkthroughs.
We do have a person of interest.
The investigation is still ongoing. There's still work to be done.
But again, we're collaborating
with the Philadelphia Police Department Special Victims Unit.
But we have increased the security officers at the building
and on campus have a photo of this male.
The university also now has
a sexual assault advisory group as of this month
and one of their goals is to give guidance to school administration.
