Aside from being scared and crying,
rescue crews say he does not appear to have any major injuries.
Our Don Timoney reports.
Sky Fox over the 300 block of Snyder Avenue in West Goshen Township
as a three-year-old little boy is loaded into an ambulance after
being rescued from a sewer pipe he fell into around 5:20 tonight.
That sewer pipe's about 12 to 14 inches in diameter.
The kids were outside playing when the child fell into the pipe.
It was probably about four or five feet deep.
It's unknown how far that pipe actually goes down.
This all happening at Hickman Sanitation, a sewage removal company.
Officials say the child and his family live on the property.
It's not clear how the little boy fell
in or if the pipe was open or capped,
but some very scary moments for his family.
His brother, who witnessed the incident,
ran in, told his mother, who called 911.
Police, fire, and the Chester County
Rescue Task Force immediately responding.
The little boy was immersed in sewage,
but managed to grab a hold of something inside the pipe.
He held on to a rope that was down in the pipe until we could
get equipment in there to physically grab him and pull him up.
Those on scene train extensively for this type of rescue
and say it was a coordinated effort to save the three-year-old.
Any incident involving a child is difficult for first responders,
but you go into a mode when you get there
and you know what you need to do.
The little boy was trapped in the pipe for about 25 minutes
or so before being pulled to safety.
He was crying, he was scared, but he was alert.
Fire officials say the child did not appear
to have any major injuries, if any at all.
He was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.
Police say they are investigating the incident as accidental.
