If you're feeling a little frosty about the prices you're seeing
for warmer clothes, coats, and hats, you're not alone.
It's been more expensive since last year.
It's been like maybe like $20 more, $10 more. Sad.
I'm a broke college student. I can't be affording that.
Prices are going up these days and it's very frustrating.
Apparel pricing in general has gone up about 3-5%.
Winter wear is no different.
Marshall Cohen, chief analyst with The Consumerologist,
says coats and jackets cost more,
partly because of upgrades in technology to keep us warm.
Coats average for adults close to $100 now.
For kids, you can get prices as low as $25 up to $75.
Cohen says you can spend less, but...
Make sure that you're getting what you want,
not just getting the lowest price.
Accessories could be where you find savings.
Cohen says people have been skipping buying accessories,
so prices for scarves are lower and gloves are fairly stable.
Gloves average around $20 for adults, $8 to $16 for kids.
If you can't find your hat from last year and have to buy a new one,
a knit cap can range between $8 and $15.
For kids, that's about $6 to $12.
Cohen says parents might want to add mitten clips
to the list for the little kids
so you don't find yourself buying more if they lose them.
