AI GeneratedStudents from Powell High School partnered with the nonprofit Dermer Dreams for a \"100 Yard Food Drive Challenge.\" By applying classroom business and marketing skills, student volunteers collected thousands of pounds of food to support New Jersey families in need, filling the school's football field with donation bags before distributing them to local shelters and kitchens.
Powell High School's football field was a sea of yellow Sunday,
thankfully not with yellow flags, but with yellow bags filled with food
collected by students that will go to New Jersey families in need.
The 100 yard food drive challenge organized
by the nonprofit Dermer Dreams.
Each one of these students received a hundred Dermer Dreams donation bags
and they needed to make a business plan to bring them here today
to fill the field. Safe to say there was some successful business plans
and the goal here was lofty.
and a real effort by these young volunteers
to collect 100,000 pounds of food.
It's an amazing thing to see the youth come
in and lead these type of initiatives
and learn real-life skills of how to manage money
and market and organize these things
that we learn in the classroom and they're
actually utilizing in the real world.
These bags will head across the state
to food kitchens, shelters, and more,
but they're first filling 100 yards of gridiron,
a task that in and of itself was an all-hands-on-deck effort.
We are grabbing the food from everyone's cars who's donating.
We're carting them over here and then going every single line,
placing the bags to make it obviously look aesthetically pleasing,
but also show just the impact that we did today.
And even through the sweat on a chilly October day,
for the students here, it's a moment
of giving they say they'll never forget.
I'm so excited. I was able to give my bags to my neighbors,
and they all filled it with gratitude.
They were so amazing. Just one word goes so far to do all this.
Having such a great community to be able to come out here on a Sunday
and just help my community and just be here with all my friends
and know that I'm doing a good thing today.
So take this field of donations as proof that when New Jersey students
and the community come together, there's no goal too big,
and in this case, no bag too small.
Kids will step up to the plate.
All you got to do is just believe in a kid and great things happen.
