Good day, Austin weather with Fox 7 meteorologist Zach Shields.
Happy Saturday, everybody,
and welcome to Good Day, Austin, weekend edition.
Thanks for stopping by and joining us.
Well, the red box days, we're just racking them up this week.
That means highs warmer than average.
We've had more warm days and cool days this month.
At least the morning and evening hours
are feeling like fall around here.
The last eight mornings, our lows have dropped below 60.
Not as chilly as what we had last weekend
when we dropped in the 30s and 40s.
but still looking fantastic.
Look at that picture-perfect sunrise on our higher Regency time-lapse.
As you move away from the city limits,
that is where you find a lot of 50s.
Like in Burnet, 59 degrees, 52 in Atlanta and Fredericksburg,
54 in San Marcos, 56 in La Grange.
After a cool morning, expect a warm finish.
62 degrees, clear skies, winds are calm, almost a full moon last night.
It'll be full Sunday night.
On the buggy meter, still feels very pleasant.
That southerly breeze hasn't brought in a ton of moisture just yet.
That's allowing us to cool off the 50s and 60s.
70, though, the warm spot down in Corpus Christi.
Blanket of clouds and a stream
of rain out in West Texas and New Mexico.
All that's going to stay away from us.
We'll have that southeasterly wind
that will slowly bring back more moisture.
This will lead to a lot more cloud cover for part two of the weekend.
No rain to clean out the pollens.
The ragweed has been awful lately.
It's in the high category.
Moderate, low amounts of grass pollen.
Okay, let's see how warm it's going to get today.
By lunchtime, we're in the upper 70s, near 80.
And then we're going to close out the day.
I know the model shows low to mid 80s.
I think we're going to be warmer than that, mid to upper 80s.
And check this out, that southerly breeze pushing that mild air all
the way up into Minneapolis and parts of central Canada.
Checking out our Sky Cams across America.
First stop, Milwaukee.
All you baseball fans out there,
this will be the site of Game 2 of the World Series.
You can watch it right here on Fox 7 Austin after
a full slate of college football during the day.
Coverage of the World Series will begin at 6 o'clock.
And then out in El Paso, hard to tell because the sun's not up,
but they have a lot more cloud cover.
And they're going to be in the crosshairs
of some rain and thunderstorms.
Blocking high pressure will make sure we're
going to stay rain-free around here.
Slight risk for severe weather from El Paso up toward Albuquerque.
The next two lows will follow the storm track
and bypass us to the north.
We just cannot shake off this rain squasher anytime soon.
But underneath it, these lows will pull in that low-level moisture.
It'll be more humid over time, and it will lead to more cloud cover.
Starting late this afternoon and this evening,
turning partly cloudy, but rain-free skies.
Mostly cloudy coming up on your Sunday.
Not looking as nice for Part 2 of the weekend,
but you can't ask for better weather to watch some football.
DKR this evening as Longhorns take on Ole Miss at 6:30.
82 degrees at kickoff and then 70s for the rest of the game.
Same kind of weather for homecoming
for Texas State as they take on the Aggies.
Not my Aggies.
Utah State Aggies down the road to peace on I-35.
And then tomorrow, we've got the big race at COTA F1.
Starts at 3 o'clock.
Mostly cloudy.
No rain worries.
Upper 70s to low 80s.
This could be the game changer for us starting next week.
This is Hurricane Vance.
I know it's been very active down
this way across eastern Pacific in the tropics.
And the leftover moisture energy from Vance will stream across Mexico
and could end up around here for the second half of next week.
This is when our rain chances will really increase next Thursday,
Friday, and then we'll zoom on out.
This mega Pacific low could keep us very showery
for the first week of November.
And our friends at the Climate Prediction Center
are seeing the same thing we're seeing,
keeping us wetter than average as we close out October
and go into the first week of November.
The highest rain totals for the next week out in West Texas.
But around here, we're trending wetter, especially in the Hill Country.
Most of this is going to happen
at the tail end of the seven-day forecast.
Maybe inches of rain in the Hill Country.
Here in Austin, maybe a half an inch to three-quarters of an inch.
But still, a long ways down the road, things could change.
We'll take any rain at this point in time.
Half the area is still under a severe drought.
Simple forecast today, mostly sunny in the morning,
partly sunny in the afternoon,
with a high of 88, even warmer than the last couple of days.
And you'll notice more moisture in the air.
clouding up late tonight and a low
of 62 mostly cloudy 83 on Sunday partly sunny 82 on Monday
slight rain chances tuesday wednesday
but i think we're gonna have to wait until the second half of
next week before you're really going to need the umbrella
