Why feeling lazy after awakening is normal | Eckhart Tolle

A questioner tells Eckhart Tolle that she feels more connected than ever, and at the same time feels lazy, as if she should be doing more. How does she keep the stillness and still play her part in the world? Eckhart says this happens to many people when they first discover the dimension of being. It is so wonderful that for a while they lose the balance between being and doing. It happened to him. For perhaps two years he lost all interest in doing anything. Then life began to give him small hints that some doing was required. A man sat next to him on a park bench, asked him something about his life, and Eckhart gave an answer he did not know the source of. It happened again, and gradually he realised what he was here to do. The doing grew out of the being, step by step, and never the other way round. What you do is secondary, he says, as long as it stays connected to being. It could be a business, a channel, a hairdressing salon. Life will show you the direction, and the first thing you take up may not be the final thing. The challenge for all of us is to bring the two together, so that you neither lose yourself in pointless doing nor disappear into being, unless it is a season of your life when being is what is called for. He also admits that he is not a great doer. He is behind with paperwork and everybody knows he does not meet deadlines. Others, like Oprah, lean the other way and never lose the connection. So do not seek a perfect balance. Be compassionate with yourself, see which way you lean, and go from there. Eckhart goes much further into this in the full session.
