While no fatalities were reported, residents expressed frustration over a lack of timely emergency alerts. Other regions experienced flash flooding requiring helicopter rescues and intense hailstorms before the weather system began moving into New Mexico.
This is such a new thing. We don't get tornadoes in Heber-Overgaard.
We don't even really get tornadoes here in Arizona that do damage.
Once you see all the damage that's out there and how lucky we
are that there are no fatalities or no serious injuries,
I'm just very thankful for that. First tonight at nine,
an Arizona community cleaning up from a suspected tornado.
The storm injured at least one person and damaged 30 homes
in Heber-Overgaard last night. A church also damaged.
And tonight we're hearing from people living there describing
what they saw and what they heard during last night's storm.
Fox 10's Megan Spector heard
from some neighbors up there helping each other pick up the pieces.
This community was hit hard.
Neighbors tell us they spent today clearing debris
and assessing all the damage left behind.
In this Heber-Overgaard neighborhood,
reminders of last night's storm are scattered on every block.
It's just like out of the movie.
It's like watching Twister back in the 90s.
It's just still looks like Twister back in the 90s.
Ron Nixon's dad lives on this street.
Ron is now helping him pick up the pieces.
Wind hit and blew out the front windows. We got those boarded up,
ripped off the front half of the shingles
on this house and the outside garage.
One of the sheds in the neighbor's yard next door is my dad's.
Just around the corner,
Suzanne Masterson found her shed had flown into her house.
That lifted from the corner, back corner of the yard. It lifted, blew.
the storm toppled massive trees into homes
and onto cars you heard pow boom and then it was
hailing and wind was blowing hard and just the thunder
and the noise and that was enough to
scare anybody but residents
are also frustrated they say emergency alerts came too late if they
came at all not to offer
so that's what's disturbing for a lot of us that needs to
to happen a lot sooner. No alert.
No, not that we're aware of. No, there wasn't any alerts.
So yeah, it's, there was zero time.
The good news, officials confirmed no one was seriously hurt,
but the long process to rebuild is just beginning.
It's been a lot of work. It's exhausting.
It's devastating. It's hard to see. It's hard to see.
This is my dad's retirement dream to watch
it almost go just down the drain. It's a lot.
It's a lot dealing with the phone calls, the insurance
companies and claims and claims adjusters
and appointments and it's it's a lot reporting in
Heber-Overgaard, Megan Spector, Fox 10 News, wow
you can tell by what it sounds like that's hail
coming down severe storm hitting near Show Low today
this video showing it all coming down
near uh linden and nearby why it's sending us this video
and the hail was really hitting hard
it looks like a blizzard or snow
but yeah that's hail four people are safe tonight after a dramatic
helicopter rescue in Yavapai County.
Take a look at this new video. It's showing the moment that
the crews rescued four people.
They were up there stranded on the roof of their car after that
vehicle was swept away by floodwaters.
They were spotted 150 feet downstream. A DPS Ranger
helicopter moved in to fly everyone to safety.
And in Kingman, a truck stuck in the floodwaters
there. This video sent in by Ron.
You can see a crew working to get the driver out of the water
with a ladder there. We had some new video tonight showing
the storm system that caused those multiple
straight days of this severe weather as it moved across the southwest.
But now the warnings and
the alerts are quieting down for the moment.
Let's check in with Corey. Corey, you can take a breath
now. Yeah, do you mind if I deliver some good news?
Yeah, we'll take it. Well, we've got it for you. In
fact, within the next two hours or so,
we may actually be rain-free across Arizona. Here's
what the big map looks like
and again the state is still covered by a flash flood watch so keep
that in mind any additional rainfall in the green zone
that you are seeing there could certainly
cause some additional troubles
and I think we're as I said going to be out of the woods before too
long I'll take what we're seeing here the warning
that is off of the map so you can get a better
idea of where the rain is falling
and there's not much left as you see over here in Mohave County
we've got a few showers going they are not amounting to much
and as we track across Coconino
and Navajo and Apache counties
and southward everything is starting to push its way off
into New Mexico and that is just fine with us
when we get together here in a few minutes we'll take
a look at the full forecast
and see where the weekend will take us I think you'll like it it's
all in just a couple of minutes, you guys.
Yeah, more hail today in Arizona. Thanks to our viewer
Mary for sending us this video today.
This is coming from Prescott as she's showing you all
that hail hitting her back patio.
And check out this shot here. This is drone video showing the
hailstorm today from Sedona, or at least the clouds moving through.
Wow, quite the sight. There it is.
There's all the hail hitting someone's backyard.
Thanks, Martin, for sending this in. You can see
the clouds in the distance as well.
And yeah, it was a busy day up there.
