In more than 600 communities across the country,
the Alzheimer's Association's Walk to End Alzheimer's,
the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care support research.
Ashley Burr with the Alzheimer's Association joins us this morning.
Thank you so much for being here.
I know we've got some walks coming up,
several different ones, even one this weekend, right?
We do, just a few days away, this weekend on Saturday in Grapevine.
Okay, Grapevine, going to be a good one.
I was shocked to read more than 7 million people age 65
and older in the U.S. are living with
Alzheimer's right now. That's a huge number.
It is. And even larger, 13 million are caregivers
on top of that. So family, friend members.
It impacts so many different people. Talk about
this walk. This is for all ages, all abilities.
And again, the first one coming up in Grapevine
over the weekend. Yes, this is such a family-friendly event.
We welcome everyone and anyone
to attend, whether you have a personal connection,
you know about the association, or you just want
to get your walk on and come learn
a little bit more about the mission. We welcome you all,
friends, kids, dogs, everyone. Wear your purple, come on out.
We keep hearing, you know, early
detection um really helps uh this is raising funds
which you know supports a lot of the medical
research that we're seeing we are learning more
and more it seems like every day about Alzheimer's
about dementia as well um it impacts so many
and if we can get close to a cure or at least figure
out how to stop it in its tracks
when it's first detected right, that would be huge that would
be absolutely phenomenal.
We have some really great new treatments out there that are really
changing the course and direction of Alzheimer's,
but that doesn't mean we're stopping.
No, long way to go still.
Long way to go. We're not going to give up until everyone living
with Alzheimer's has a treatment,
they receive care and support that they deserve and need.
Yeah. You're at the helm of this because your heart is clearly in it.
It all started with
a grandfather of yours who battled Alzheimer's, right?
Yes, my grandfather passed with Alzheimer's years
and years ago before we even knew about the association
and all the resources and care and support that's out there.
So it's very near and dear to my heart.
We love the fundraising.
The walk itself is phenomenal,
but it's just about growing that awareness as well.
Yeah, and being a community, right, and kind of leaning on each other.
You mentioned the different caregivers and everything
because sometimes that can be the hardest part
is caring for someone who's going through this.
It is. So many people think about those with the disease
and they don't actually think about everyone who it's connected to,
their friends and family that encompass it,
much like yourself that you've witnessed.
Yeah, yeah. So it's nice to all come together and really just to have
this moment where everyone kind of feels like they're going through the
same thing together and at least can lean on each other and learn more.
So again, several walks coming up in our area in North Texas.
Here's the list of them all. Great locations.
So the first one we're going to be kicking off is October 24th.
That one's going to be in Grapevine.
Church at the Cross is where that's kicking off.
And then November 7th, Clyde Warren Park in Dallas.
Also the same day over in Fort Worth, shops at Clear Fork.
So November 7th is going to be a big day.
And then in Arlington, November 14th,
we have a link with all the information.
They make it so easy to join.
Just head to our website, fox4news.com.
