Our game of the week is on Friday this week,
not tomorrow, not Thursday.
Parish Episcopal taking on Prestonwood.
Joining me, our sideline reporter, Chris Mycoskie.
Chris, why is this game on Friday?
Well, usually we broadcast UIL games,
and they do not allow for live television broadcasts
on Friday nights.
So we shift to Thursday,
but some great news in that for potential broadcasts in the future,
2027 and beyond,
UIL now just one step away from approving live TV on Friday night.
So we could very well shift the game of the week next year,
but still obviously some time
to go here.
Our Friday night game this week is in Taps.
It's a rematch of last year's state championship in Division One.
All right.
And we're talking about Parrish Episcopal and Prestonwood.
Tell me about these two teams.
Well, like I said, met in the state title game last year.
Parrish won that 14-7.
Neither school off to the type of start that they would like to be,
both suffering a few losses where Prestonwood is needing a win tonight
to assure itself a, on Friday night rather,
needing to win to clinch a playoff spot.
But Parrish is there, but certainly still trying to get up
to the level that they would need to be to win a state championship.
A couple of weeks ago, losing to Argyle Liberty Christian, and the
Warriors really seem to be the favorite in Division I this year.
What players should we watch out for in this game
or just in high school football that you want to talk about today?
Well, let's talk about players involved in this game, of course.
The focus should be on our game of the week.
For Parrish, it's Logan Lucero, the quarterback who already has offers
from Notre Dame and several other major programs,
despite only being a sophomore, saw him play last year,
and he was kind of just trying to survive out there and get along,
and now he is clearly the team leader
and somebody that everybody is looking towards.
For Prestonwood, I'm really interested in their quarterback as well.
They had an Air Force commit in Ryan Nydick starting to begin the year.
He went down in Week 2 with a season-ending injury,
and Prestonwood turned to Max Reyes.
And he's somebody who was beat out for the starting job,
but his head coach, David Wetzel,
said that he would be ready for the chance, did not complain one bit.
His line was, I'll be ready when you need me.
and it turned out that Prestonwood needed him in week two and beyond,
and he's had some really solid performances as well.
All right, what's it going to take?
Who needs this game more?
I mean, duh, everyone needs to win the games,
but which team needs this game more, Chris?
Well, like I said, Prestonwood needs a win to get into the playoffs.
Parrish has already clinched a spot,
so if the Lions can get the victory, they're bound for the postseason,
And once you get in, anybody has a shot.
You just have to be playing your best football come tournament time.
Chris Mycoskie, our sideline guy.
Hey, thanks for hopping in.
I still got to check out your brother's spot next time I go home.
Thanks for your time, man.
