Clayton county officer injured in traffic stop

We want to get over to our Tanya Mendoza on our Fox 5 Atlanta assignment desk, which really has its hand on the pulse of the city right now with some breaking news. Tanya, what's going on? All right, so we started getting some phone calls that over around Charles Drew, I believe, high school over in the Riverdale area and behind Southern Regional, where Southern Regional is, there was some sort of police activity. What we're trying to find out is what happened. So we called over to the Clayton County Police Department because people were saying there were like hundreds of police cars in the area. What they said is that an officer was injured in some sort of routine traffic stop. We're trying to find the exact location with our helicopter right now, but we're over in the area right now. We've also sent a crew there on the ground, and we have sent a crew over to Grady Hospital where police confirmed that the officer is being transported at this time. They say that they will have a press release soon with full details, and we'll get that to you, Tom. All right, so just let's recap real quick, because we're looking at live pictures from Chopper there. So this is some sort of officer-involved shooting, and if you could drill down— No, no, officer-involved accident. We're not sure exact details. He was injured somehow on a traffic stop. Okay, so— And those details are going to come from the police department shortly, but that's all we know. He was injured in some sort of traffic stop. He is being transported right now to Grady Hospital, and we will update you as soon as we get more. They said that we should expect a press release. Oh, wait, let's see if this is it. They're just saying active incident within Sector 2 area of Clayton County, and officers are actively working the scene. But what they said to me on the phone was that an officer was injured in some sort of traffic stop and he is being transported to Grady. We did get several calls from people in the area asking why there were so many police officers there, concerned parents around the school. And then we got calls from people who were on the highway saying there were several police officers heading up 75 and they wanted to know what was going on. and that's what we know right now. We'll continue to update the public as soon as we get more information, Tom. Yeah, glad we clarified that. A traffic incident involving a Clayton County deputy. The chopper was over that. Police officer. Police officer. Police officer, yeah. All right. Information coming in fast and furious. The chopper over that hospital, but you say he might have been transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. Yeah, because in that area, there's an elementary school, there's a high school, and then there's what was Southern Regional in that area, Southern Regional. So all of that's kind of in the same area. That's where whatever happened, happened, and that's where police were responding to. So there was a lot of concern from people in the area because it's a busy area. And they just wanted to know why there was so many officers there. And that's what we know so far, Tom. All right.
