afternoon of news. And as you come back in the newsroom,
it's time now to check in with our
assignment manager, Tanya Mendoza,
for a check of the stories that we are working on today. Hey,
Tanya, happy Wednesday. Hey, Tyler, happy Wednesday.
Yes, we are working on several
stories. Let's start out with what Rob DiRienzo is working on.
Last night, the FBI is investigating
reports that an incendiary device was thrown at the U.S. Immigration
and Customs Enforcement
building in downtown Atlanta at approximately 9:30 p.m. that's
when it all went down we had
sent a crew there the FBI personnel
and evidence response technicians were on site collecting
evidence um and there is no threat to the public uh right now
is what they said there's no threat
to public safety at this time the investigation
is ongoing what they told rob today is that um
basically they're going to put out a flyer
a little later one of those be on the lookout type
flyers that they put out and they may
or may not hold a press conference. They did confirm this was
a single suspected Molotov cocktail, no injuries,
and they're seeking information. So once we know
more, we will let you know. And Rob is all over that story today.
He'll update us later. Tyler.
Yeah, I got that push alert overnight
and I was kind of shocked when I heard about what happened.
So obviously, as we learn more,
we'll continue to keep people up to date. Let's turn our attention
now to this one. This is something that we
were learning about yesterday, but we're obviously
starting to get more information about why a bridge
is closed in northwest Atlanta. The details
here are kind of interesting. That's right.
Drivers are facing major delays after a car
struck a bridge on Moores Mill Road.
That bridge partially collapsed. The closure forced commuters
to detour along Ridgewood and West Wesley Roads.
Crews are assessing the damage to determine
whether the bridge can be repaired
or if it'll need a full replacement so we did get an update
from the watershed management
and basically they said that the Moores Mill bridge over Peach
Creek remains closed after a heavy vehicle struck
the structure damaging its structural support
and water line the department
of watershed management continues to coordinate with
The Atlanta Department of Transportation on the assessment
and repair process at ATL. contractors are currently on site
and they're evaluating the structural damage
and determining the necessary repairs while the DWM continues
coordinating efforts related to the damaged water infrastructure.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid these areas
and we will continue to update you on that.
That is where our Michael Moore and Ray Yerena are right now.
They're working that story.
They'll have updates throughout the day.
There are some detours that they have posted.
You can get that on our website.
And I also believe that the watershed
department has tweeted those out as well.
So that's what they're working on.
And we'll continue to monitor that story.
I was looking at the history of the bridge.
It's a really old bridge, Tyler.
Yeah, I don't know.
I don't know if I've ever been over it, but yeah, I mean, looking
at this live picture right there, it does not look like a bridge
that was just put into place maybe within the last couple of years.
It does obviously look a little older.
So for people who live in that community,
it's obviously going to be hard to have to deal with while they have
to navigate around this if they're trying to commute to and from work
or trying to get to maybe a grocery store or to an appointment.
So you obviously feel for those people in that community as they deal
with the partial bridge collapse that now obviously they're going
to have to repair all these issues with the Department
of Watershed Management, obviously the bridge itself with DOT.
So obviously safety is the foremost here.
That's why they're closing it.
But, you know, it's just going to impact people who live in that area.
Exactly.
So we'll continue to monitor that.
And it's a big deal for people in that area, like you said.
And Ray will have updates on that throughout the day.
Now let's move on to what Kevin Stewart is working on.
So basically, Kevin is working on a story regarding
a nurse diagnosed with breast cancer
with no family history of the disease.
She works at City Hope in Noonan.
And basically, what he's saying he wants
to focus on is she was under 40,
but without symptoms or family history,
Her doctor convinced her insurer to pay for a mammogram,
and it found cancer in her breast.
So he's working on her story.
Her name is LaKeitha Russo.
He'll have that update a little later.
You know, we've been featuring a lot of breast cancer patients
this month, and we'll continue to do so.
Kevin will have that story a little later.
I'm excited to hear more about it
and the message that she wants to get out to other women.
Yeah, I mean, obviously,
it's so important to share these types of stories because we know
that breast cancer touches the lives of many women and men, too.
So it's very important that we share it during this month of October.
Obviously, big companies get involved behind this with the different
organizations, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation
and a couple of all the other ones, the Susan G. Komen.
So there's lots of reasons to share these stories,
and we're going to continue to spotlight them during this month.
But let's turn to this. We have another collab with Outkast,
this time with the Falcons, not Waffle House.
Obviously, you know, Waffle House
is a very big institution here in the South.
Let me pull up this. I don't know if you can see behind me,
but here's some of the merch that they have launched with the Falcons.
So basically, Atlanta Falcons
and OutKast released ATLians retail collection.
I'm looking at the press release right here.
It says that Atlanta Falcons and OutKast released
this 30th anniversary ATLians collection celebrating 30 years
of OutKast's iconic second album.
The collection is available for a limited time only online
at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on October 25th.
Every piece features a Falcons-inspired interpretation
of the original ATLians album artwork.
The seven pieces come in black and neon green.
And basically, there's a lot.
It's pretty cool.
I'm looking at all the items on here.
It's pretty cool.
And they also said that the collection leads
into the Falcons' ATLians theme game Sunday, October 25th,
when the Falcons host the San Francisco 49ers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Big Boi will perform at halftime
with more surprises planned throughout the day.
Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
So we're all excited about that, Tyler.
I really love these. This is like very well done.
I love the colors. I love
what we're looking at here.
And I think it's safe to say it's so fresh and so clean.
Oh my gosh, you did your research.
I'm so proud of you. All right. Thanks, Tyler.
Tanya, thanks so much. Appreciate the update
on the stories we're working on today.
I want to take you now to our
