We know it is a bittersweet morning here on Good Day Atlanta
as we say goodbye and wish a happy retirement
to Ron Gantz after 14 years.
But before we do, okay, first of all, let's address.
You may not recognize Susan Kisak.
One of our favorite producers came back.
None of us could do it without Susan.
Oh, heck no.
But she's not the only special guest
who wanted to stop by and wish you well.
Oh, what?
Huh?
Do we need a drum roll?
Way up!
He's back!
Oh my, Kev, you guys know,
you know how long I've known her?
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
And of course.
My heart just stopped.
I love you so much.
Oh my god, Natalie, thank you.
And of course, I bring you all your Reese's.
Natalie, thank you so much.
Oh my goodness.
See, now this is not a...
You just said you had too many of those in your bag.
Do you see the left?
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
Oh my
god.
see the love pouring out for you do you see
the love pouring out for Ron Gantt oh my gosh
here's
the 3-1 delivery
this one and there
is home run number 30
for Ron Gantt
When Ron Gantt joined the Fox 5 team 14 years ago,
Atlanta already knew him as a hero.
A baseball legend who spent his first seven years
in the majors defining the glory days of the Atlanta Braves.
But over the past 14 years,
he traded the outfield for the anchor desk, helping Atlanta
and North Georgia wake up with a smile on Good Day Atlanta.
We quickly learned that his greatest
talent went beyond sports or broadcasting.
broadcasting. It was his undeniable ability to connect with people.
So you're a professional
at it now, right? I suppose.
He was always up for anything, bringing a competitive spark and
a contagious laugh to everything he did.
Taste matters for more than anything else,
and the best tasting dish here was Ron's.
Especially when it came to his wardrobe.
Frame up the voice. When Ron walked in this morning,
I was like, are you kidding me?
On the television, yeah. I saw the television. I was like, wow.
And of course, his famous love for socks. Every. Kind. Of sock.
He was a powerful storyteller,
taking us to Cooperstown to sit down with baseball royalty.
And when the world slowed down and schools closed during COVID,
Ron stepped up for our community.
Hi, everyone, and welcome to Reading with Ron.
Today, I have We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen.
Let's read it together.
He brought that same warmth, dedication,
and genuine care to our newsroom every single morning.
Ron is stepping away from the anchor desk to begin his next chapter.
He'll be spending more time with his family
and traveling back and forth to Texas.
But the good news?
He isn't leaving Atlanta.
You'll still see him around town, continuing his work with the Braves
and, inevitably, dominating on the golf course.
Ron, you're not just a phenomenal broadcaster.
you're a wonderful human being in every sense of the word.
From the bottom of our hearts,
thank you for 14 incredible years.
Because when it comes to defining your legacy,
our viewers really say it best.
So what do you think is better,
Ron the baseball player or Ron the news anchor?
Ron the
man.
My family here, my good day family.
Can I just say, how are you the one person
that looks younger now?
I look younger and we all got older over 14 years.
I don't feel younger.
That is for sure.
That is for sure.
The black don't pray.
That it does not.
That's so true.
I've heard that.
I've heard that.
Now, Ron.
Again, you guys are just, you've been amazing.
Everyone, I mean, there's been a lot
of moving parts over the years, but it's just been so
awesome to be around these people.
Not just delivering the news,
but just getting to know everyone personally has been such
an honor.
Yeah.
It has.
It has.
It has been an honor to work with you.
And I want to say that this is not your only surprise.
Oh my goodness.
We've got one more.
Oh my God.
Yeah.
Come on out.
Oh my God.
What?
Oh, here we go.
It
worked.
I said I wasn't
going to try.
You guys got me.
You guys really got me.
Now, wait a minute.
How do we get some of these jerseys right here?
We made them signed.
Oh my God.
They're absolutely amazing.
We love you.

and DMs that I've gotten has just been amazing.

And he's just came so far.
And time just moves so fast.
And we're just so proud of him.
Thank you guys for taking care of him.
Thank you so much.
I'm speechless right now.
I mean, I never thought I'd ever be speechless,
but I'm speechless right now.
And thank you for sharing your dad with us.
Thank you guys for taking care of him.
Oh, I was in good hands.
In her hands.
Now you're in our hands.
You're actually retiring.
No.
Yeah, that's it.
It's a good, it's a good, I'm retiring.
More vacations.
More beach time, more Italian food.
We're actually leaving tomorrow.
We're going to leave.
That's what I'm talking about.
That's it.
That's what I'm talking about.
Oh, my God.
I'm going to be able to stay up late and finish watching.
Yes.
Right?
That's good.
There we go.
Sleep and stay up late.
Yes.
Watch my little voice.
Susan, you worked with Ron for so long as his producer.
What are you feeling right now?
I'm just so happy for him to actually have his time be his own.
That's an amazing thing.
Couldn't have done it without you guys.
Congratulations.
We love you guys from the bottom.
