Oh my goodness. Talk about standing your ground
in a sea of Valkyries violet at game two of the
WNBA finals. One fan stood out proudly repping
the Atlanta Dream in her red and she has caught
the internet's attention. She has caught our attention.
It is Sarah Lee Parker, a longtime
ride or die fan. And she joins us to talk about her viral moment
and also the hopes for the Dream
to bring home the championship to Georgia.
Good morning. Good morning. Good dream. Absolutely.
I mean, this has got to feel like a wild ride for you.
It is.
I mean, it was fun.
I went out there to cheer, and I've
been a season ticket holder since the very beginning, since 2008.
And I've been to other finals and other games,
and I was like, I've got to go.
I've got to go.
But in this environment that you're in, I mean,
you are just right smack dab in the middle of all these Valkyries fans.
What was going through your mind at that moment?
Did you have any sense that you were going viral?
No, I did not know that.
I was I was sending texts to my friends and things.
But so funny. They were amazing.
And one, I wanted to experience that arena because it was so I mean,
it's their fans show up and I hope Atlanta does the same.
Right. But it was loud. It was crazy. And they were so nice.
I have to say they were super respectful. Very nice.
I stood up and screamed every point we made and cheered and everything.
So I love that because it does seem like it,
despite that environment and where you would
put yourself right in the middle of it,
you didn't make some, make some new friends, right?
Absolutely.
And they've, you know, we've messaged on social media
and things and we have made,
made new friends and it's all fun.
It's all part of supporting women's sports and the WNBA.
Well, and you already kind of touched on this.
I mean, you are not a fair weather fan of the Dream.
You have been with them since the very beginning, right?
So how many games have you gone to?
I think however many home games we've had over 18 years now,
probably over 250 games, I think.
I've been a season ticket holder, so I've been to the games.
And I tell you, we couldn't even get people.
You know, years ago, I had to beg people to go.
Now people are calling me, hey, you got an extra ticket?
Can we go?
So it's fun.
It's fun to see it.
I mean, we had this energy back when we went
to the finals back in the day with some of the original teams.
But this feels like it's it.
Right.
Well, and being a season ticket holder, that's just another
reason you're one of the most popular people around right now.
Between being viral and having access to tickets.
When I was on the TV, my phone started blowing up when they showed.
And people I hadn't heard from for years
are texting me, I just saw you on TV.
Are you there?
That is wild.
I think that's you.
Well, Sammy, what is it that made you fall in love with this team?
Well, you know, they were, in the very beginning, they were reaching
out to Atlanta women and business owners to support and buy tickets.
And we did.
And then I joined a small group of people
in the very beginning to kind of be an ambassador.
So we had a small group of dream ambassadors,
and we would do things in the community and things like that.
And a few of those OGs are still around.
Shout out to them.
But, yeah, I mean, and then once you went my first game, I was hooked.
I had not been to a WNBA game before.
I went to the first game, and I was like, oh, my God, this is so fun.
And it just gives you life, gives you energy in a day that,
you know, if you're having a bad day, you go in there and scream.
Right.
It's great.
Yeah.
Okay, so what did you bring?
I see some more Valkyries Violet here.
I did.
Well, now, tonight we have the same kind of thing.
The blue tonight.
Right.
This is our, they gave away the finals thing.
Get rid of that.
And that's their rally towel.
And this is their ball holder.
Now, I will keep this.
Ball holder was special.
And that was neat.
And so they were loud.
I didn't even know.
I mean, I knew we were winning.
I had to go back and watch the game to see how great we did that day.
um because or that night because it was so loud
and i was just in the moment in the moment and i
knew we were winning and i could see but it was just
so loud i mean deafening like wait yeah so
you know i mean and they're known for that what would you say
to atlanta dream fans who you know
you need to show up okay where do i look all three of them sure okay
so you mentioned
you're supposed to wear blue tonight
so i guess that answers my question you're not gonna wear
your lucky jersey. Yeah, I am.
I'm going to, I'll put the blue on top because this, I feel like
this is now lucky. Yeah. Angel. You've got to.
Angel had a great game and I, uh, yeah. So I'm
wearing it. I'll put the blue on top too.
And then we have the rally towels. Okay. I'm glad to hear
that. Cause I'm, I don't know if you're superstitious,
but I'm superstitious. So I want
you to wear that. This is lucky. Okay. All right.
And so, you know, as, as we kind of wrap this up
here, I mean, I, I guess I already know how you feel.
I mean, where do you think this is going
here? Is this it? I think we're going to win
the next two games at home in our house and then we've
got to go back there. I really want to go back, but I probably won't.
But I might. And you're
prepared to go alone. Yeah, I need to go, right?
I need to go. Bring my lucky jersey, sit in my
same spot, maybe a little closer.
But no, I think we're going to win it. I think this is a team,
the sisterhood, they're locked in and they are tough.
I love it. Yeah, absolutely. Well,
just like they are great ambassadors for the city of Atlanta.
I think you have become a great ambassador for the Atlanta Dream.
Well, yay, go Dream.
Yeah, a pleasure to meet you.
It's fun, you too.
And continue to ride this wave, and I hope they do too.
I do too, go Dream.
Yeah, go Dream.
See you all tonight.
