Flavors hit hard at Ground & Pound Coffee

Welcome back. 8:37 is your time. She spent years vanquishing vampires. So when Sophia Crawford says that she can craft a strong cup of coffee, well, you better believe her. I will. The veteran film and TV stunt performer happens to be the owner of Alpharetta's Ground and Pound Coffee, and it's fair to say the fall flavors there are hitting hard. I see what you did there. Good news. Paul Millican is live in Alpharetta this morning. Paul, this place, that's a place we know pretty well, and I don't know, is that going to hit you hard? We do, yes. Maybe it already has. Oh, it's hitting me in all the right ways. I'm slowly evening out my cookie lid right now. This is the most genius thing I've ever seen. Other coffee shops take note. Ground and Pound knows how to do it. And we are so glad to be back. It has been years since I spent a morning with my great friend, Sophia Crawford. It's good to see you. It's wonderful to see you. Yes, I'm so glad to be back. I remember finding this place right after you first opened. And I walked in, and the first thing, I remember it well. I was like, why in the world does this coffee shop have pictures of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and other action movies all over the wall? So answer the question, Sophia, why are these things on the wall? It's a homage to those shows, iconic shows. I was a stuntwoman for, gosh, over 35 years. And these are some of the shows that I worked on. Buffy, I worked on for four years, you know, one, two, three, and four seasons um Mighty Morphin Power Rangers I've doubled Amy Jo Johnson um and so you know I wanted to pay homage to those shows but also stunt people uh reflect some of their work on the walls in the community the stunt community yeah I love that you really sort of celebrate the art of stunt work here and that's very cool to see and then of course the art of a good cup of coffee how did this happen why a coffee shop Sophia I mean I well hey you know I was because you love coffee i love coffee i actually worked in coffee shops in london as a teenager that's cool i sort of came full circle i was looking for something to do as i was starting to hit retirement yeah and i wanted to do something community driven i've always loved the coffee industry i've always been a people person yeah so i just wanted to sort of combine the two right right um my husband's from georgia so which is why we moved from la to georgia and just also a Stunt performer, we should say. Performer. But really the reaction from the customers is what's made it grow. You know, they see the pictures. They have memories. They grew up watching the show. Oh, you have such a loyal fan base. You have created a real community hub here, and that must feel amazing. Yeah, I am so grateful for it. You know, really, they come in regularly. They support us. We won Best of North Atlanta again. Well, you just keep winning over and over. Well, I'm not surprised, especially when I see food like this. So, look, last time I was here, I don't think you had breakfast yet. Now you have the most amazing breakfast item. So tell me what you brought out. All right. So we brought out the avocado toast. Super popular. You can do it on sourdough, but it usually comes with a whole grain. It's a really good quality bread. And let me just say, when you said sourdough, I know my friend Alex Whitler on the other end of this camera said, sign me up. I'm in. You're not wrong. Sourdough is her favorite. You know I love it. or this is a BLT, again, made freshly. Everything here is made freshly on the premises. Nothing is frozen. Oh, yeah, you guys are working back there. Oh, yeah. Chicken salad croissant, and then we have our breakfast sandwich with scrambled egg, bacon, cheese. We have a very popular burrito. It's called the pounder. And you can have it with bacon, cheese, or chorizo, and then we have a sidekick pounder, which is chorizo and bacon. We've got a lot more stuff than this. Oh, you've got a lot more than this. And we should mention, too, we're showing the breakfast items because it's first thing in the morning. You have more than just breakfast in terms of food, right? Yeah, so we have lunch items, too, more sandwiches and things like that. But we also have an evening menu to go with our evening events. Right, right, including alcohol drinks, too. You've got, like, a full bar back there. So there's a lot to enjoy here at Ground and Pound Coffee. I think in the next hour, what do you say, can we try some of the fall coffee drinks? Absolutely. if i ever finish this one i mean this this is the most decadent coffee and cookie i am very happy and i have to do something quickly because tell you when you brought the food out tim behind the camera got very fixated on this tell me what this is again it's a chicken salad croissant so before he takes it let me just say um sir i would like for you to have this is my present for you sir you go ahead and dig in sorry tim it's been claimed you can't have it but i'm gonna have a avocado toast right now, and Alex Whitler, I'll let you know how it is. Oh, nice work there. That's how you do it. You make a mess and you love every minute of it. That is good. That's what I wanted, baby. I will say the entire ambiance reminds me of 90s. Oh, that's my earpiece. I love my earpiece. Go ahead. You can say whatever you want now. But for you at home, it reminds me of like the Friends set. It just looks so warm and inviting. And I was going to ask him, of course, you talked about the menu for lunch and dinner. You know what I was going to ask, right? If there's a burger. If there's a burger on it. So we'll have to find out as Paul continues to make a mess. And you know what, Tim? We'll make sure you get something. Do you have anything? On all burgers and buck shoots, Tim gets fed.
