Last-minute Philadelphia Eagles updates ahead
of a turning point Week 6 matchup at home
versus the Carolina Panthers.
The Philadelphia Eagles find themselves
in a situation they could not have possibly envisioned
just a week ago.
I'm your host, Colin Kelly.
Welcome to Eagles Digest.
We're going to do a little bit of a review,
final review and preview ahead of this all-important
matchup.
Why the Eagles offense in particular needs
to get things going is forced to.
to say the least.

The big, big NFL league-wide story
of the week is Jalen Hurts.
Jalen Hurts was placed on IR Saturday prior to today's game.
After Adam Schefter and Ian Rappaport notably had said,
the Eagles early in that Saturday they're
no they're not in no rush to as far as an IR
determination for Jalen Hurts to then only say well
the Eagles now after consulting with doctors
just hours later are placing Jalen on IR
a bit interesting the national insiders coming out with
that only to then kind of go back look to me
this is the only move that makes sense Jalen Hurts
the severity of this injury how serious
a blood clot can be and is it only makes sense to at
minimum miss the next four games which
then takes the Eagles into their bye week at the earliest
Jalen Hurts returns potentially six weeks in terms
of game action depending on how the medication
how the blood thinners maybe it could be longer
but Jalen Hurts we are hoping for all the best
we wish you all the best in your recovery
in corresponding moves Zach Berman courtesy
Jalen Hurts IR Jaden Blue sign to the active roster
as Saquon Barkley is notably out again
Keyshawn James newbie after AJ Appanessa is doubtful
but really Jaleks Hunt the big
loss Jaleks Hunt out for this matchup Bo Wisniewski
also elevated for today's game Michael Carter
is out so the eagles have a lot of young players
who are going to really get opportunities
some that still are going to have to wait
for their NFL debut specifically Eli Stowers but also
after Jacobrian Bennett Grant Calcaterra
and also Landon Dickerson were designated for return off
the IR in practice this week they are all going
to have to wait at least another week as they're
not going to be playing today versus the Carolina Panthers
but who is it's Sean it is Tanner McKee
to be clear under the tutelage of OC Sean Mannion
interestingly enough Sean Mannion he is used
relatively used to a Tanner McKee backup type
of player him being one himself i want to make it
clear Sean Mannion has to understand the state
of this offense change you you had to take a step
Anyway, regardless of your quarterback,
you have just not been able to consistently elevate
this offense, especially in the second half.
So in a way, with Tanner McKee's skill set,
Sean Mannion being able to relate this backup,
Tanner McKee's still relatively young
and his NFL career only with the Eagles versus
Sean Mannion, more of a journeyman.
But you've got to understand,
with the season on a fine edge as well, 2-3 versus potentially
3-3 or 2-4, make life easy for Tanner McKee.
Harness what he does well.
Being able to get the ball out quick, being relatively accurate.
As Eagles fans, we've all seen relative flashes
with Tanner McKee over the course of the last
couple of years.
This is now the opportunity for him to show
that he's a different player, particularly
compared to this past preseason.
He's a player that's ready, willing,
and able to at least keep an offense on schedule in
conjunction with a Sean Mannion.
Sean's got to be at his best in order
to put Tanner McKee in a position to succeed.
you're forced to adjust nonetheless to say
the least going from Jalen Hurts' skill set to
Tanner McKee but notably Tanner McKee gets DeVonta Smith back
a number one bona fide alpha wide
receiver that is massive massive massive massive
for Tanner McKee just giving him an opportunity
giving him the best possible position to succeed
to potentially get a win but when you think about
where the Eagles find themselves in this situation courtesy
of Kalshi thank you for sponsoring today's
video the Carolina Panthers 61% chance to win Eagles
are underdogs on Kalshi the beauty is you
are trading directly against other users
not the house like traditional sports books you're buying
yes no contracts on the outcome of events related
to politics even the weather but of course sports
like your Philadelphia Eagles
and when i think about how this game is set to go, Tanner McKee
making his debut, i think this Eagles offense especially
with the DeVonta Smith back against
of Carolina Panthers defense that has given up a lot of points,
I think they've held off the Eagles.
Find a way to score 18-plus points,
a $25 yes trade with a 51% chance
to pay out $49.24 if the Eagles go out there, score 18-plus points.
I think there's going to be enough on schedule drives.
I think DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon,
and also a Panthers running defense,
rush defense that's just not good at all.
That's how I think this game goes.

When we dig into Tanner McKee a little bit more,
you look at over the middle of the field, he's had some success.
Going back to the 2025 season, a bit of a throw chart here.
Three of three in terms of intermediate four
of five, 10 to 19 yards.
Tanner McKee struggles, funny enough, throwing to the left side,
but I'm particularly intrigued by that middle of the field.
Notably, he hasn't even really attempted any middle deep throws.
But when you think about
who Tanner McKee could have a particular rapport with,
I think it's Makai Lemon, how he can
thrive across the middle of the field.
You look at the green areas from Makai Lemon,
where he has his most success,
relatively speaking,
it's where Tanner McKee has had success in the NFL.
I really think Mekhi Lemon growing into his own,
now you get Devonta Smith back.
It bodes relatively well, I think,
for the Eagles offense, where already, injuries
aside, at the quarterback,
the most important position, you have to evolve.
You have to learn from struggles,
from lessons over these last several, several games on
this three-game skid.
When you think about the Seagulls offense,
though, you've got to get more out of this
running attack, less a Saquon Barkley.
It's going to be Damian Pierce.
he's got to be more effective than than a 1.3 yards
per carry just not going to be good enough
Jaden Blue we talk about him being activated
as a eagles official roster move ahead of this game
but damian pierce against the panthers team
that notably gave up just record shattering
type of yardage embarrassed week one versus
the chicago bears their formidable offense their
formidable rushing attack not that I expect
the Eagles to just light it up with Damian Pierce
leading the way it's a totally different monster
relative relative defense that you're playing
when you go from Jacksonville
to Carolina still some game breakers don't get me wrong with the
Derrick Brown you've got a Jalen Phillips former Eagle coming off
the edge you've got Trayvon
Merritt you've got Devin Lloyd there's playmakers with Carolina
but this Eagles offense I think
there's a lot of opportunity
but this Eagles defense where we know they're the strength
they're going up against one of the better offenses
in football one of the quarterbacks
the better quarterbacks in football with Bryce Young
this is why the Eagles offense for them to
win this game versus the Panthers Eagles offense
is gonna have to take a massive step of course in
the second half as well I think Tanner McKee
in a way he doesn't know what he doesn't know
it's his new lease on life as far as an opportunity
in the NFL he comes in there not really feeling
all the weight of the world the pressure mounting after
the first five games you've got to match
or try to match what Bryce Young's doing
this Carolina Panthers team coming off of a bye as
well where the Eagles are coming out
and off of a international game there's already a huge
disparity there but Bryce Young Tetairo McMillan wide receiver one there
and then they get Jalen
Coker back as well this Eagles defense has
their work cut out for them to be clear you look at some
next gen stats Bryce Young 100.0 passer rating
62.3 completion percentage which is plus five over
five percent over expected time to throw sub three seconds why
do i want to note that time to throw
percentage because or time to throw mark because
when you look at courtesy of PFF this was through
last week through five game sample well for everybody
but Bryce Young Bryce Young had played
one fewer game he's the second still
the second most pressured quarterback in terms of he takes
a drop back to pass only Tyler Shuck
although again having played another game than Bryce Young
has faced more pressures notably Bryce Young
his play amongst these top five most pressured
quarterbacks his play sticks out like
a sore thumb he has played to such a high level even with all
the pressure that he's faced this Eagles defense you're going
to need Jalen Carter you're going to
need a Amaro Jomo a Zach Bond a Jihad Campbell you're going
to need defenders on that first and
second level to step up to find a way to bring Bryce Young down
or else you're just increasing
the burden that your offense under a new quarterback
is going to have to carry the guys
I want to hear from you a little bit
of a last-minute pulse against the Carolina Panthers
how confident are you that the Eagles pick up
a win today one to five I've been around three all
week and again I've skewed I'm about
a 3.25 I'm respecting this Panthers opponent but I'm also
hopeful especially particularly with this Eagles offense
do you guys agree let me know your thoughts
down below as always see you in the next one let's go birds
