Last minute Eagles news ahead of a critical week one
divisional matchup versus the Washington Commanders including
a stunning late injury update ahead of this first game.
I'm your host Colin Kelly.
Welcome to Eagles Digest football is here in today's video.
We are going to review some interesting updates as far as
injuries and preview this game before we do subscribe to join
the most passionately informed community of Eagles fans Eagles
fans that already knew a certain Jonathan Granard was going
to be out dating back to the team's Friday injury report.
We're covering from a pectoral injury Jonathan Granard the
big headline acquisition via trade of this offseason for the
Eagles.
There's no need to rush him.
The Eagles want to ramp him up.
This comes as no specific surprise.
The Eagles have enough talent in my view when you look at one
Jalik's hunt Nolan Smith, even depth guys in in Arnold
Abiquetty, but as far as the interior Jalen Carter Jordan
Davis Mauro a Jomo.
There's a lot of talent on this Eagles defensive line and even
without Jonathan Granard.
I think they're going to be able to control this game when
specifically you think about the control how this game
projects when you look at cowsheep the current market the
expectations where the Eagles have a 68% chance to win this
game versus Washington at 32% on cowsheep.
You are trading directly against other users.
Not the house like traditional sports books.
You're buying yes or no contracts on the outcome of specific
events across politics, even the weather and of course sports
markets like your football the Eagles when I think about the
Eagles not only to win this game, but to frankly control
via their defense.
I'm looking at the market for Washington more than 21.5
points.
I'm buying no.
In other words, I think the commander score 21 or fewer
points three touchdowns against your Philadelphia Eagles a
$25 no trade with 66% chance pays out 38 and 10 cents.
I like that and what I think you'd like if you are interested
in cowsheep using the link in the description signing up with
the code digest NFL.
Trade 25 and you get 25 added to your account instantly.
We think about the Eagles how this game specifically shapes
up with the defensive line in particular Adam Levitan of
established the run they do great analysis as far as offensive
line defensive line.
The commanders already facing a massively difficult test against
the Philadelphia Eagles here without their star left tackle
Laramie Tunsil torn triceps one of the better one of the more
veteran left tackles in the NFL.
It's a huge absence for the Washington commanders as they
deal with this Eagles defensive front.
Brandon Brandon Thorne who works at established the run noting
that the Eagles come with an elite the second best in his
view pass rush unit.
And when you compare that to the Washington commanders, their
offensive line, it's a mismatch.
Anyway, you slice it.
Brandon Coleman fills in specifically for Tunsil Chris Paul
Nick Allegretti Sam Cosme Josh Connerly jr.
A first-round pick not too long ago.
The Eagles should be able to take advantage of this mismatch
at home.
I trust that Vic Fangio is going to really be creative really
put stress on the commanders on whether it's off the
edge or some disguises some creative rushes.
Blitzes through the inside as well.
I think the Eagles this is how they control.
This is how they win this matchup.
When you think about the flip side as far as offense is
concerned.
We need to first start with the stunning news from the Eagles
on Saturday.
We've downgraded tight end Eli Stowers to out for tomorrow
for today's game.
With quadriceps and hamstring injuries.
He's been placed on the IR.
We've elevated Britton Covey and a corresponding move to for
this game.
This is a stunner in the sense of Eli Stowers was only listed
as dealing with the hamstring dating back to he even said
the Patriots preseason game.
And as recent as Friday in the player availabilities prior
to week one hours was pretty excited and talking about the
plan.
To give it a go to play to make his NFL debut as a rookie.
It might Garofalo.
Give this context hours telling the reporters from he was
confident he was going to be able to play.
Before being placed on the IR a day later with the quad
injury.
That wasn't even necessarily listed on the report.
So it calls into question.
If the Eagles were really hiding something as far as towers
and his health.
Or if they're trying to in a way with a with a phantom injury
that some are speculating with a well.
Here's a new injury a guy that was going to play.
Apparently he the player himself thought he was going to
play.
And then now he's out for four games.
So it's really interesting.
This context.
I'm curious.
I want to hear your guys view on this.
What do you make of this timing with Eli Stowers?
The Eagles already relatively thin at tight end got her Johnny
month.
Now EJ Jenkins is going to have to play a big time role.
Jenkins was one of the more surprise initial 53-man roster
cuts roster makes if you will.
Eli Stowers.
I feel for.
You've got to envision.
There was some change overnight from Friday into Saturday,
whether you picked up that injury acquired injury.
Or there was just an organizational lip as far as.
You're now sitting out four games.
It's got to be a real injury is my view.
I don't see how you would then all of a sudden place him on
the IR if it wasn't something that is truly serious enough
as far as severity.
I don't see how he was not see any one in this organization,
especially with how Sean Mannions talked about Eli Stowers
is relative progress over the course of this rookie off and
then preseason.
Interesting.
We think about though.
How this Eagles offense is going to take advantage of Washington
again battle of the trenches.
We focus on.
Case senior chat sports given some.
Pretty interesting.
Context as it relates to this matchup.
The commanders offseason.
They added defensively.
They added on the edges.
But more athletes as opposed to some physicality.
You look at the Durante Jones, the new defensive coordinator
for the commanders bit of a Brian Flores disciple, Minnesota
Sean Mannion also a former player in Minnesota.
They're certainly familiarity there.
So that new first-year coordinators as far as Jones on
Washington Mannion with the Eagles, of course, offensively
going to be fascinating to watch as the game develops.
Maybe they don't show each other.
Maybe it's a feeling out initially the first couple drives
and then we'll see what happens.
But as it relates to Jones the identity the Flores philosophy
if you will.
Pretty conservative as far as double high.
Safeties encouraging you in other words to run first lighter
boxes.
I think that really opens things up for our Saquon Barkley
as Chase alludes to here.
We think about Odafe Owe and Kayla Von Chase on.
Who?
We're also popping up on the injury report for the commanders
throughout the week, but they're playing as is to Ron
Payne.
This defensive front.
For the commanders.
I think it's something that the Eagles offensive line can take
advantage of as far as a mismatch goes where this
commanders defenses is a bit.
Intriguing to me as far as potential issues is their first
round pick top 10 pick Sonny Styles out of Ohio State has
had a pretty good preseason has been making plays as freakish
athleticism as far as a linebacker is concerned here.
I think he could potentially be an x-factor that would in
theory pose some problems for the Eagles offense.
But as far as your front five your offensive line, I think
they analyst commanders defensive front.
I think there's gonna be enough creativity in dealing with the
athleticism of a Sonny Styles.
Who?
Take advantage of to see games for this Eagles run game.
I think Shawn Manion in Shawn Manion.
I trust to be clear.
What he has shown as far as the communication.
The philosophy even starting up in the coaches box.
Not being seemingly attached to being on field as the former
player himself notably.
I'm expecting good things for this Eagles offense in week
one and for this season.
Even if they're without their second round pick Eli Stowers
for the first four games potentially even more guys.
I want to gauge your expectations.
Do you think we win?
I think we certainly do but I'm curious.
Who do you think impresses more in terms of which side of the
ball is it the Eagles offense or is it the Eagles defense and
in other words, maybe relative to expectations.
We know this Eagles defense is an elite unit, but offensively.
Lots been made of some change new coordinator.
At the end of the day.
I'm still going to go with the Eagles defense as far as who
impresses more as an elite unit, but I think this offense is
going to potentially surprise a few of you.
Let's go birds.
Big game and I think we get a big win.
