Rangers make multiple moves... This is perfect | NYR News

This change makes things a lot more interesting for the New York Rangers and is genuinely good news for Rangers fans heading into their next game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. We're going to break down exactly what this change is, multiple moves that the Rangers have made, and a lot of people are starting to talk about Dylan Garan and the goaltending situation. And I have my thoughts on it. A lot of Rangers fans have their thoughts on it. We're going to break down exactly what the goaltending position should look like moving forward and much more in this episode of Rangers Digest but before we get into all of that guys a quick reminder to hit that subscribe button i am giving a jersey away here on the channel to one lucky subscriber so if you're watching the content over at Facebook make sure you're subscribed over on the YouTube channel as well and thank you so much for 12,100 subscribers already and at 15,000 subscribers or the Rangers making the playoffs i will be giving away a jersey here on the channel but let's get right into it we have a lot of updates to get to today on the Habildor FBF i was talking about it a little bit yesterday that this is something that probably needed to happen we were looking at all the advanced analytics that suggested time to make the change and put them back together because Doraev plays his best hockey as a New York Ranger with JT Miller and Ty Carcier now we'll get into that but these are the new look lines heading into the game tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets and they are in Columbus um it is Mika Zibanejad and Lafreniere has been moved back onto the top line with Zibanejad you have Carcier Miller and Doraev they play well together that third line stays the same and if you missed it Taylor Radish has been called up from the Hartford Wolf Pack in exchange for uh your uh Yaroslav Hemelosh who's been sent down to the Hartford Wolf Pack the reason for that is they want him to get into games Justin Dowling was called up a couple games ago as well with Kolbaldwyn being sent down and then Oliver Bjorkstrand who makes his return to Columbus speaking of returns to Columbus Gavrikov as well so these are the lines no changes to the defense pairings and Dylan Garnet is set to start in goal but again from Vince Mancagliano he mentioned it this morning in a piece that he published and we were looking at a little bit in the video yesterday too Cartier Miller and Dorofeev has a best expected goals for percentage of 72 when they're playing together so it makes sense to get those guys playing together and back on the same line and hopefully they can create some more magic offensively um And what's ironic about that is Dorofeev is the guy you would expect to be finishing those plays, but it's actually mostly Cartier, which is pretty hilarious. So that might regulate. That's not going to stay the same over the course of an 82 game season. And Dorofeev's got to get going. We were talking a lot about that. And to be honest, I would bet on him getting going. I think that's a safe bet. Like he's going to figure it out. It's, you know, a new team, new system. the puck his shooting percentage right now is actually quite low these things are going to regulate he's going to be okay i would like to see him finishing more of these plays and i think putting him back on that second line in that combination based on everything we've seen and you know the sample size that we have so far this season they play the best together out of every line we've tried a couple different things already they play the best together so put them back together and your offense should come back to life a little bit which it's really been one game and it was a stinker against the Devils like those are going to happen right even though i circled down the schedule is an automatic win for those of you who uh you know have been watching for a while but again let me know in the comments how you feel about JT Miller, Pavel Dorofeev, and Ty Cartier playing on the same line together tonight it should be a recipe for success so I'm excited to see what it looks like now another interesting storyline is Alexey Lafreniere returns to his buddy Mika Zibanejad they play really well together so I want to see what that looks like tonight as well and ideally it should look good now you see Zibanejad when he's playing with Dora fayev and Perreault not great expect the goal share uh and all that 34 percent uh not great right you're getting kind of filled in at that point actually like that's really not good uh when he plays with Lafreniere and Perreault 52 that's actually quite good they're generating you like to see them maybe dominate generate a little bit more for a top line but when you pair that with the second line you you do have some really good offense there so um that's good news ideally based on everything we've seen so far this season that tells me that tonight they should come alive a little bit more offensively so that's going to be good because they're going to need that right and they do play pretty good team defense as well but uh Lafreniere has been really good one thing that i'm looking for in this game too is Alexi Lafreniere, can he continue his streak? he's been so hot, he's putting up points in every single game. one thing that i've been saying guys, i'll say it again, with Lafreniere to this point in his career that has been his Achilles heel is consistency, he has not been able to do this in every single game, you'll have a game where he'll score two goals and then he'll go four or five games without doing anything and then he'll have another game where he'll score a goal or two or he'll put up three points or something like that and then he'll go another five games without doing anything that's been his NHL career forever but now he's putting it together more consistently, he's playing with more confidence, he's playing great at the net front, this is something that I want to see continue and if it does like you got a star on your hands here, you got an 80 point player, you have a point a game player on your hands because it's just going to continue to snowball this way so um and we saw it at the end of last season, it's a small sample size in comparison to his entire career but we saw something at the end of last season that we'd never seen before and it slowly started to trickle into this year as well and that's good news so i want to see that continue, that's another thing can he put up more points? he also does love in his career playing against the Columbus Blue Jackets another guy that also loves playing against the Columbus Blue Jackets is Mika Zibanejad, if you take a look at Mika Zibanejad against the Blue Jackets in his career, shots on goal loves to shoot the puck against the Columbus Blue Jackets for some particular reason uh and he just likes to play the Columbus Blue Jackets, he puts up points against them as well so uh that's something I'm keeping an eye on tonight as well because Columbus by the way if you look at their advanced analytics what their coach is saying Rick Bones he's saying that he's never been 30th in goals against his entire career he hates it the Columbus Blue Jackets are letting in goals from everywhere the the rangers have a great opportunity tonight to put these lines back together get feeling really good about yourselves again offensively and get right back on track after a devastating loss against the devils and have your goalie feel good about himself too another interesting storyline about this game is Taylor Radish back up after scoring five points in five games with the hartford wolf pack so he's back up Hemelosh back down they just want Hemelosh to get into games and play he was not getting into every game with the rangers he was playing like eight minutes i agree with that better for his development i'm all for that i've been for that for a long time but i also said that i wanted Hemelosh on the team but the caveat with that when i was talking about in the offseason preseason heading into this season um i was saying he needs to be playing he needs to play a role for the team because i think that he can but if he's not being utilized in that way it's best for him to just play right and as much as possible so uh he'll be doing that with the hartford wolf pack now he gets into the lineup tonight on the fourth line we'll see what that looks like no Matt Rempe tonight i think that's pretty interesting columbus has some tough customers but i don't know maybe they just figured tonight is not the night uh and again Lafreniere or sorry Zibanejad has been good to start this season he's usually a slow starter he's been good to start this season that's another encouraging sign so again like how do you bounce back and this is something that i wanted to talk about too before we wrap up here is how do you bounce back from a loss that's what i want to see from this group specifically this year and not just the group not just the group you're starting goaltender this is something that i talked about yesterday too don't go out and make a panic trade yet your projected starter tonight is Dylan Garand he got pulled in last you know the last game against the devils i wouldn't say it was his fault but how does he bounce back from this before you make a trade i want to see how this guy bounces back from a bad performance which again i don't even know if you call it bad performance i don't even know if you pin that on him specifically how do you bounce back from a bad loss and one where you were pulled how does that look mentally for him how does that look physically for him i want to see what that looks like can he handle it and if he can't and you start to see signs that he can't and maybe this starts to snowball a little bit you'll lose this game it's it's ugly looking then you look at trade options but if he looks great again and you win don't make that trade yet don't pull that trigger yet because everyone is seething seething waiting for you if you're Chris Drury to make that trade they are hoping praying that you come to them they you you call them they pick up the phone and they're saying give us everything that we want for this goaltender that we know you so desperately need because Igor's out for the season and now Garand looks like he can't be the guy wait a second pump the brakes i want to see what this guy looks like coming back off of a performance like that mentally physically and if he looks great and they win again today check out the save percentage larger sample size we're starting to build here we're starting to play more games i am a Dylan Garand stan i've been saying it for a long time i think he can handle it but i need to see what this looks like at the nhl level tonight so this is a big test for him there's a big test
