AI GeneratedThe New York Rangers are exploring goaltending upgrades following Igor Shesterkin's season-ending injury. While reports link the team to Anthony Stolarz and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, there is significant debate over whether a \"panic move\" is necessary given the current performance of Dylan Garand and the impending return of Jonas Korpisalo.
Trade rumors and reports are really starting
to escalate revolving around the New York Rangers
as multiple NHL insiders have revealed
that the Rangers are looking to upgrade at the
goaltending position after the news
of Igor Shesterkin being ruled out for the rest of the
season. We're going to break down some
of the options some insiders have revealed the Rangers
are looking at and why it's a bit of a puzzling move
for the Rangers to go out and do something
like this panic move. We're going to break down all
of that and much more in this episode of
Rangers Digest including the Rangers play tonight we're going
to break that down and it is a rivalry
game against the New Jersey Devils
but before we jump into all of that a quick reminder to hit that
subscribe button we've noticed that about 80 of you guys
who watch these videos on a regular basis
are not yet subscribed to the channel thank you
so much guys for 12,000 subscribers i am doing a
jersey giveaway at either 15 000 subscribers
or the Rangers make the playoffs and right now
second in the Metropolitan Division it's looking pretty good
for the Rangers making the playoffs
but we'll see how the season finishes out now there
is a big report flying around that Anthony
Stolarz has been inquired about from the Toronto Maple Leafs
from the New York Rangers and if you
see this from Darren Dreger he revealed
that i think they've actually kicked tires on Anthony
Stolarz now there's another report and i saw this this morning
and we'll get to Anthony Stolarz on
what that means specifically
but there was another report this morning from Elliot Friedman on the
New York Rangers goalie scout Scott Clemmensen being
at the Buffalo Montreal game this week
and he said he was in Montreal i assume to watch Lukinen play
but we'll see where that goes there
is a lot of smoke right now around Anthony Stolarz
around Uko-Pekka Luukkonen from the Buffalo Sabres
and let me tell you guys if one of these guys
are to become a New York Ranger one of them makes more
sense than the other and first of all i think both
of them don't make as much sense as let's
say a Jordan Binnington because you want an expiring contract
but my point is i think no
matter what happens here Braden Schneider
is being attached to one of these trades and it's kind of
an interesting situation because i think
the Rangers need to trade Braden Schneider one way
or another before this year's trade deadline
but it's an interesting situation that the Rangers
are playing very well do you want to do this right now
and i'm not even so sure i have to be honest
with you guys that the Rangers should be making
a trade for a goaltender period like i haven't
even mentioned that yet this far into the video i don't even know
if that's a good idea and i don't
even know why you would do it especially today
or tomorrow or this week like Dylan Grunin has shown
that he will be just fine
and Jonas Korpisalo is coming back we'll get to that later in the video
though but Anthony Stolarz is an interesting case to me
so far this season with the Toronto Maple Leafs
not great showings he has uh two wins
though he's put up two wins so far he has an .875 save
percentage and a 3.32 goals against average
which i think is more of a team-ish stat anyway but over
the course of his career has been a really good option uh
and of course won a Stanley Cup in
Florida just a couple seasons ago
but if you look at some of his stats from the last couple seasons
keep in mind by the way league average goaltending
is like just under 900 now so last year in .893 on
the worst teams in the league the year before that a .926 a .925
and uh when he was with Anaheim
a .917 this is a good goalie this is a good backup option
to take a little bit of weight off of your
goaltending options for whatever team right any team
so he has notoriously been a great option
now the reason i don't believe this makes sense
is because why would you trade for a goaltender
that has four years left on his con his contract just kicked
in this year at 3.75 million dollars
a year that doesn't make sense especially
with what you have with Dylan Grant was i right or
was i right dylan grant can easily be at least
a backup goaltender the Igor Shesterkin and then
maybe you look at having another option as a third goaltender uh
and obviously Jonas Korpisalo still
here this year so to me this one i i can understand
the sentiment of kicking tires but it better end
there because i don't understand trading unless
you're giving up Braden Schneider and something
else is coming but all in all Drager did say
that the Rangers have kicked tires on Anthony
Stolarz it's more just exploring options uh
and there has been no trade package uh you know out
there but i am linking loosely Braden Schneider
in a trade package uh to the Toronto Maple Leafs
because they need defensive help
so i think that's pretty interesting and uh we'll see exactly how
that all plays out and you can see this uh
as well comments by the way leave comments guys
i'm going to be doing comments of the day every single video now
but the rangers want to play
uh a backup goalie and a fringe goalie this season
then they're going to find out i think
a trade for a starter with one year left makes sense for them
and that's kind of where i was
bringing in Jordan Binnington and that was that comment
was from the Jordan Binnington video where
i was talking about that and how
that actually does make sense if you're going to go out and
make a trade for another goaltender
so Jordan Binnington would kind of make some sense but I
want to talk about this I want to talk about Dylan Garand why
are you going to go out and make a trade
why are you going to go out
and make a trade period Jonas is coming back and he's going to
be the backup goalie and Dylan Garand is going
to be a starter look at the comparison to the other
goalies we're talking about Stolarz
and Binnington Garand is just blowing them out of the water Garand
has a 950 save percentage what Garand has
a nine i'll say it again 951 save percentage and you
might be like oh well that's pretty impressive
and whatever he's played three games four games
so far this the four games this season um yeah i guess
that could be impressive but small sample
size in his NHL career he has a .950 save percentage
in his career has he let in some stinkers yes but
i think he can carry some of the weight
for a while like he's showing that he's fine he's fine
and he's young like he's fine
and Jonas is coming back it'll be okay if they have to kick a game to
Spencer Martin i could see that becoming a problem
and maybe that's where you want to bring in more
experience maybe that's where you want to bring in a Jordan Binnington
but um you can see there's
another comment if you really go for the playoff
if you're being serious about the playoffs
Binnington is a must-have so people are on board
with Jordan Binnington to a degree so let me know
in the comments how you feel about all
of that i don't think right now i have to be honest guys
don't trade for a goalie do not trade for a goalie i
was saying earlier maybe you look at it if
there's a goalie you're going to trade for i mean UPL
is very interesting i think it makes more sense
than Anthony Stolarz UPL is very interesting from the Buffalo Sabres
and if you include maybe
Brayden Schneider in that trade
or any trade for a goalie that could be an interesting trade
package depending on what's coming back
the other way it could make some sense at least for the year
until Igor returns next year
but and by the way Igor's full cap is not off the books by the way
they're only saving about four million
because they didn't put him on season ending LTIR only
on the regular LTIR which is like what if they make
the playoffs are they opening or leaving the
door open that if they make the playoffs he can
come back like i think that's pretty interesting
so anyway tonight the rangers
in new jersey let me know how you feel about all of that the uh
rangers playing the new jersey devils
which i've circled here on the calendar as a guaranteed win
is what i believe i referred to it as a couple videos ago
and i had new jersey devils fans in
the comments saying how could you disrespect
the devils like that's the nhl i'm gonna stand by that
this is a guaranteed win for the rangers tonight yes
and if they lose that's gonna look horrible
tomorrow and i'll have to come here
and uh have we'll have some fun with that if they lose but
they won't they won't they are second
in the metropolitan division right now the carolina
hurricanes is off to a really hot start as well
with 13 points but the rangers right there in
second with 12 points and in the entire conference
as well looking pretty good so excited to see what
they can do tonight if they can do some damage to the devils
who are sixth in the metropolitan
standing so um should be a good game should
be good we know jack hughes is pretty fired up he
wants to get going here a couple lineup changes
that the rangers have made cobalt when was sent
down yesterday justin dowling has
been called back up he's going to be the fourth line center
tonight the rest pretty much the same Dylan Girard
is going to be getting the start tonight
Lafrenière has been on fire ladies
and gentlemen he's been awesome so i'm looking for him to score
yet another goal um like to see more consistency out
of him you're starting to see a little bit
more consistency out of him
so that's always been the biggest thing for me that Lafrenière
just needs to play whatever he's doing in a game
because we've seen games where he can be physical
we've seen games where he can put up points where
uh maybe he's assisting more we've seen games
where he takes over and he gets two three goals
and they come in bunches he needs to be more
consistent he also notoriously loves to play over
the last couple seasons the New Jersey Devils so
um he needs to come up big here
or sorry the opposite he does not play well against Devils
excuse me i'm thinking of a different player
but we'll see how that all shapes up tonight and need
another big performance out of JT Miller as well
and you have to wonder how hurt he was last season
but again one guy that's going to look to make
an impact on the other side tonight is Jack Hughes
it looks like your starting goaltenders tonight are Dylan Garand
and Nico Dawes so that would be
your goaltending duo tonight it'll be a big one
but guys let me know in the comments your predictions
for tonight's game the rangers win their third straight
or the devils stop the rangers run and
pick up some big points that they need themselves
and again JT Miller huge factor for me tonight as
well as as well as uh you know Alexis Lafrenière
in there he needs to have a big game too but
let me know how you feel in the comments below guys i
do not think that the Rangers should trade
at least right now unless proven otherwise
that they should be trading for a goaltender it just
doesn't make sense to me but i do wonder
if Braden Schneider would be included in any
trade package for Stolar for Binnington one thing's for sure
though uh you can always count
on Chris Drury to do something that doesn't make sense
