It's big news to go over today as the Toronto Blue Jays have made
a sneaky good trade in despite their slow start to the season
and some wild things happening in yesterday's game.
The Jays have made a trade that has big implications going forward.
But not only that, we have Jon Schneider calling out
the team yesterday following their collapse and multiple other updates,
including one surrounding Patrick Corbin.
That is way better than fans initially thought.
A ton to go over on this episode, folks,
including an MLB debut occurring today.
So stay tuned for all that in this episode.
So before we get into it, if you're a part of the percentage
who aren't subscribed to the channel,
this is the place to be for Daily Jays content.
You guys are an absolute beast of support.
Now, ladies and gentlemen, a lot to go over today.
And obviously, yesterday I had my post-game video
with Brendan Little talking about him getting,
how he should get sent down, DFA'd, and whatnot.
There is a pretty big trade that happened here,
and it is surrounding Tyler Fitzgerald.
So the Blue Jays say that they've acquired infielder Tyler Fitzgerald
from the Giants for cash, and that Fitzgerald was optioned to Buffalo.
Now, I was actually going to be I was starting to prepare
a couple of days ago a video on Tyler Fitzgerald.
Now it makes a ton of sense. He was DFA'd by the Giants
and the Jays had an opportunity opportunity here.
Sorry to kind of fill in some of the depth
that they lost in the Leo Jimenez trade.
I love this move. I absolutely love this move.
And it is a move that allows them
to obviously maintain some flexibility.
But also, you now add another infielder
who's had some really good years.
You can see this here again. It was just for cash.
They didn't give up any players, which is really good.
And they had an open 40-man roster spot,
so no corresponding move was necessary.
It made all the sense in the world, especially
when you didn't have to get rid of anybody else.
But you see that the Giants DFA'd Fitzgerald earlier this week.
And ultimately here, he made his debut in 2023.
He was pretty darn good at times for the Giants.
Now you can see here, Fitzgerald was running
a .380 BABIP back in his good year,
which means maybe there was some luck that contributed to it.
last year he had a down season was uh you know ultimately
was also dealing with a left rib
fracture but folks he is uh you look at his stats
and again in 2024 he had a really good year and
he's only 28 years old now he's just
a couple years removed from an .831 OPS season his rookie
year .733 OPS this is a guy in Fitzgerald where you
are you automatically have some more infield
depth you have some really good upside here
and someone who's done it at the MLB level before and
And I'll be at a smaller capacity.
I love the move because there is absolutely positively no risk, right?
There's no risk whatsoever.
I guess the only risk technically would
be a roster spot and opportunity cost.
If you could have got somebody else,
but they didn't have to make a corresponding move here.
You just add Tyler Fitzgerald makes a ton of sense.
And as Ben Nichols Smith says here,
he has 178 games of MLB experience with a career 739 OPS.
he hit 15 homers in 2024 fast runner versatile enough
to play multiple positions replaces some
of the depth loss via Leo Jimenez
but there's more flexibility here since Fitzgerald can be
optioned and that's another thing
that people don't realize and it's why this signing is so
you know sneaky good or this trade sorry he has
options he has speed he's done it at the MLB level
before and I love love love the the move
and you can see his career Triple-A he's a
career 825 OPS hitter in AAA good for 32 out
of his 37 stolen base attempts that's extremely good
and then of course in the MLB in 2024 he ran
an .831 OPS with some pretty good numbers to place
every position on the diamond hard to believe they got
that guy for nothing and that's a big thing
they got him for absolutely nothing
and I'm excited about this move will it make you know
will he make a huge impact going forward that's
a you know still a big question mark it is up in
the air but one thing is for sure they gave up nothing they
were able to acquire a useful piece
that is going to have some sort of impact
on this team whether it be at the minor leagues for depth
or most most likely the major league level at some point
and uh i'm excited this is the leo
jimenez backup even though in theory
or their backup plan even though in theory leo jimenez
a bit more of a shortstop than Tyler Fit
but gerald is but comment down below do you think this is
a good move again you gave up cash considerations
so no nothing of value there now a couple other
We have a lot of other updates to dive into today.
So I want to start with this one here.
I believe we covered it in yesterday's video.
The Blue Jays won't have a real timeline
on Alejandro Kirk until after he meets with the
specialists on Monday.
And this is relevant for the update in a minute here,
but that will narrow down exactly what
treatment and recovery they're dealing with.
Until then, I let my dog do my taxes before listening
to a Twitter doctor, because there's
some Twitter doctors out there talking about
how Kirk is an injured and all these other
things, right?
Kirk has a, he's dealing with obviously a thumb injury.
It is a fracture slash broken thumb.
So you're dealing with that thumb injury.
The good news is you get to see Brandon Valenzuela
and he is making his debut today.
And that was following Tyler Heinemann's disaster class game.
So let's say Kirky misses one week, two weeks.
It's going to be at least a minimum week, right?
It's probably going to be a month potentially.
We'll keep you up to date.
We'll probably get some more information today, maybe tomorrow.
We get to watch Brandon Valenzuela,
who has been really doing really good.
And this is someone they acquired last year
at the trade deadline for Will Wagner.
So this is a trade that, again, they were going all in last year.
they were able to retool and acquire a catcher
which all of a sudden now you desperately needed
right like we've seen last year
and we can think back to uh there's a lot i think his name is
riley smith uh whatever the catcher was for the jays
a while ago um way back there's a lot there
was a lot of different options here like not now
and i'm saying in previous years that weren't
great when you when alejandro kirk got injured
or danny jansen got injured the guys coming up
weren't fantastic even ali sanchez last year
in the year before like they weren't great this year
you have a prospect who has some very very high upside
which is uh which is pretty exciting and
you're going to need it because john schneider called out
the team and he said that early he
was very direct post game rather speaking to some
of the blue jays early mistakes and he said we've
got to set the tone here to what we expect
and if you're not doing it someone else to get we'll get
a chance to do it now he also spoke out about brendan little
and basically said that every
single game matters at this point each game
is important and we're going to have internal
conversations to see if we can make this team any better
so essentially that's paraphrasing of
course they're having a conversation internally
about sending Brendan Little down he does have
options there's no reason not to you can go up get a dip
or go down rather and get a different
arm and Adam Mako and you know i don't know CJ Van Iexpect somebody else
to get the bullpen has been
absolutely abysmal so you're going to need to figure it out
and uh speaking of which like
Tyler Heineman i was on i was on his butt yesterday
for kind of you know selling the game a little
bit everyone was fans but after
the game he took full responsibility for his mistakes and he was in
tears and he said the last two games those losses they're
on me sugar-coated any way you want to
yeah there's other things going on but they're on me
and i believe the other things going on he's
talking about are you know there's a flu going around
the clubhouse like a stomach bug or
something which is why Eric Flowers Stark got pushed
to today instead of yesterday but um yeah
unfortunate we move on i'm not going to harp
on it too much everyone has bad days
Tyler Heineman had a couple bad games
in a row he did ultimately cost them a couple times but that's
baseball right that is uh that is baseball
and he's a very good backup catcher he's one of the
best backup he was the last year was like the best he
was the best backup catcher in baseball or at
least one of them he was running a crazy OPS
this year is above a 900 OPS but he's a negative four
because of his defense which is usually one
of his calling cards right being serviceable behind
the dish and calling and managing a great game
so let me know down below what your thoughts are
in this comment are you upset with Tyler Hyndman i'm more upset
with Brendan Little like at the end of
the day here you look at the way
that the game went Lazaro Estrada gave you four hitless innings
you should be able to win a game there uh brendan little blew
the game completely second blown save
terrible terrible terrible you look at the bullpen
and their numbers this year like little
ranks obviously last of them by far
but uh Hyndman by the way they are hilarious they're
running a few guys who haven't given up a single run
and then like if you told me that this was
the bullpen like that's
a pretty good darn good start Fisher Rogers Relan Estrada Hoffman and
Nance barely gave up any runs, but Miles
Fleury, Hyndman, and Little, like those are guys you kind of
expect to give up runs. You figure you'd be in
better faith, but comment down below what your thoughts are. One thing
before we wrap up as well is Patrick Corbin.
Unbelievable yesterday. So he actually just went
out and started yesterday's game, and
five innings, zero runs, four hits, one walk,
nine strikeouts, which is crazy,
but Pete Matson said encouraging start
from Patrick Corbin, and of course the pitchers
and innings are what matters most here. Perhaps he makes another
start against more advanced hitters,
but there's not much reason for the Blue Jays to slow play
this. If he's built up, that's one
of the biggest reasons they signed him. He's built up, right?
He's built up, ready to go. He had already
been built up to 80 pitches before this. Now he threw
another 74. He's going to be called up soon.
You guys are absolutely piece of support. Comment
down below if you're excited.
