The speakers evaluate both teams' offensive capabilities, recent performances against common opponents like UCF, and their respective paths toward the Big 12 championship game, while debating the betting value of the spread and the overall strength of the conference.
Houston and Oklahoma State are two awesome offenses.
You look at it and you're like, man,
like 62 and a half high enough, right?
I know it's a lot of points,
but which one of these teams is not getting to 30?
Mastermakers got it going right after the early season struggles.
And when I say early season struggles, I mean the Tulsa game.
Connor Wegman's got it going.
I cannot believe that this team trailed 17-0 against UCF.
I laid 10 and a half and they won by 10.
I cannot believe that that is still a thing that happened.
It's a four and a half point number.
Did this game make your card, almost make your card?
What catches your eye here?
It almost made my card.
I had Houston written down for a little while.
Last week, I played the under in the Houston K-State game.
I thought Houston played a great game.
I still like Houston.
I said it on the first show of the year.
I think they can win the Big 12.
It's still right there in front of them.
I'm not necessarily buying what Texas Tech is selling.
The season's gone pretty much how I
thought it would for those two teams.
with Houston losing late versus Texas Tech
and could get the rematch in the Big 12 title game.
They've got to take care of an Oklahoma State team
that I don't think anybody saw coming,
especially after the Tulsa loss.
We're like, ah, this whole thing, experiment, is going to go wrong.
But Mike Gundy and the Cowboys have
looked absolutely great this season.
I think this is just a step up for them on the road at the Cougs team
that I think is very, very good.
I'd be surprised if this game didn't go over, so I stayed away from it.
Houston won this game by 22 on the road last year.
Different Oklahoma State team, obviously.
Cowboys team put up 42 points versus UCF last week.
I like Houston, but I couldn't get myself to lay it.
I'm probably going to play it in some little parlay cards I have.
I just think they're the better team here.
That doesn't mean Oklahoma State can't win it.
They've done everything right since that first game of the season,
and they're right there in Big 12 contention.
So, I don't know.
Sometimes, you know, spread math, spots, all these things.
Sometimes, like, I just kind of like this team.
And that's how I feel about Oklahoma State.
Now, not enough to get them on my card.
I think mainly because Houston, like,
that's an early season scare team for me, right?
Where I laid it against them with Texas Tech,
was not covering all game,
and then miraculously was covering.
And then, I'm not saying I, like, I wouldn't have deserved that win.
but it looked like I had it, they snatch it right, they missed
a two-point conversion okay fine
and then whatever they did against UCF like I don't know we don't seem
to have a good feeling
on I would say almost every year there's like one team like I need
to not be involved with
your games that might just be Houston
this year usually it's just Clemson it might still be um
I do think Estimegar should play
or at least has the chance to play very well the way you
want to attack Houston is through the air he's starting
to just again get that rhythm going
can he play a clean football game he does have five interceptions
on the season which is a little
loud but I think my takeaway just kind of the Big 12
as a whole somebody who's in on Texas Tech,
obviously they've not lived up to that number
is the Big 12 is better the Big 12 is like much
better than maybe people
are realizing Utah look awesome Texas Tech don't look as good as last
year's group but that's still
a really solid team I sneaky think BYU might be the worst team of
these five we'll find out today I think that might be true
and then the Houston and Oklahoma State
offenses are really fun I'm not trying
to do something like see 24 teams is great i'm not
trying i'm not trying to do that but i do think
that these are all teams that interest me dave
and i think you know depending on tiebreakers are all in the mix here
when we talk about a Big 12
championship appearance yeah well you bring up tongue-in-cheek
the 2014 playoff like neither
and none of these teams are national title
contenders they're just not i know texas tech
was in the playoff last year they were a top five team
but i don't think anybody's gonna say texas
tech oklahoma state houston utah byu are actual threats
to win the national title sure they can
all make the 2014 playoff
and lose in the first round um i do think utah has looked outstanding
like you said we're gonna see byu tonight texas tech it's
a different team than last year the
defense is still great. The offense has struggled.
I think they will have no
problem with Arizona State today. We're going to see who's
going to be the contender for Texas Tech
with this Oklahoma State-Houston game. I really
believe that the winner of this game will face Tech
in the Big 12 title game, and you're
right about everything the Cowboys have done.
And yeah, there are some Houston
scars for you and for me, because I had them
against Oregon State and they didn't cover.
Last week, Houston, you look at the common opponent,
Houston-Oklahoma State,
They both played UCF recently.
Oklahoma State blew them out.
Houston needed the rally.
This is going to be a great game.
I think it comes down to the very end,
which is why I couldn't take Houston.
