It is a very dreary day, ladies,
but at least director Leo is trying to bring some sunshine
by wearing his pineapple shirt.
Aren't pineapples a sign?
Of what?
Google it.
It's upside down pineapples.
Roll the open.
Happy
Friday.
I'm glad you're here.
Welcome to the old show.
First up today, talk about multitasking.
Imagine being able to wash dishes and wash yourself.
Thank you.
i like you already yeah i like you already
this home look at this everybody this home in ohio
features a shower in the kitchen jeff don't clap
for that no the strange layout helped earned it a
spot on zillow gone wild yeah the listing says
the home has a dog washing area uh so that
that bathroom might be intended
for fido yeah yeah nothing says luxury living like taking a shower
next to the air fryer yeah just like i don't know
what all this means but anyway yeah next um you
guys know this is a relatable
y'all know well most of us know you know how it feels like forever
when you're waiting for the doctor to come
in in the exam room you know you're in your little
you're the thing with the nakedness back here
and then yeah imagine waiting all night
a woman in new hampshire went to urgent care after an asthma attack
but the staff
forgot about her left the building for the day
locked up and left her there after she realized
it she popped her little head out
of the door she's like hello she did a little she did a little
mrs delphire she was like yeah so then she called 9-1-1
and they found her yeah the good news is
she's fine the bad news
is her co-pay now includes security
that's right yeah thank you thank you i
appreciate that today today on the show a new pop music hit
and something new for Drew Barrymore plus
Katie Canine is here with you ladies
and gentlemen she's fully
potty trained it's Falun
do you have a snack no like
who was someone eating lunch
up here what's happening good lord in heaven hi
you know that as we sit here Eric has his dog
in Jeff's office yes i know yeah photographer Eric
yeah photographer Eric brought his dog oh your mic's
not on my love yeah yeah there we go it's
It's on now.
Don't worry about it.
We were eating donuts backstage.
We had a turn-off.
We were eating donuts backstage.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So we couldn't have mouth noises.
I know.
ASMR.
Did you?
Is your hair different?
I don't know.
I just cleaned it.
I look at you every day.
Your hair is different.
It really is.
I've had it back in a bun or ponytail every day this week.
You can smell it.
It smells nice.
Oh.
What's that?
Oh.
Thank you.
oh that smells nice thank you yeah yeah i'm
telling you guys i gotta check this gay thing
i'm i think i'm into women now i gotta tell you
yeah yeah he's he'll say there have been some
advances made on me this week
so yeah yeah i'm telling you i reunited with my college girlfriend
bang bang like yeah i'm like yeah girl ever since
i ever since i ate some ribs with holly i'm like
yeah i'm like yeah okay
but but give an opportunity to go on a date with holly
let's say she was single and you were single
or ryan philippe who are you
we're good we're good yeah yeah sorry holly yeah
it is funny i think colin is getting a little
sick of me being so effervescent about holly he's getting
a little he he's getting every time i
mentioned the story he's like yeah yeah yeah
your girlfriend's pretty you know he's getting a little
sick of me like how often are you bringing holly up well
this week a lot i mean yeah okay okay
if jake was bringing up an ex on the regular how
do you think i would handle that okay but
there's a little difference here yeah sure i look i went
to headquarters i took the test again i'm
good you know what i mean yeah i'm good i got you know i i had
my 3 000 mile checkup i'm good yeah
no but how do they
do a 3 000 mile check up there just long story yeah yeah yeah right
it's a quiz it's a quiz you got to make a bed
and you got to arrange some flowers and then that's
yeah yeah yeah yeah that's good
and then the final the final quiz is you got to put out you
got to plan an entire dinner party menu and then
and then they're like yep you're safe you're still
gay you know that's what you do jason throws like
the best dinner parties thank you that means a lot
coming from you you haven't had one in your new house
for me so let's get that going well at least
you've been invited to my house hey you've
been to my house now seconds oh i've been there twice
now you're right i've been there twice i know we've had we
do we we have some oh a dinner party
because it's like it's just gossip
and yeah we just yeah i don't know what that means but yeah
it's just yeah there was one dinner party where someone it wasn't you
was like all right say
something you don't like about one person
that isn't here he did oh we did do that i i didn't
because someone one person just took the lead the whole time
and i was like i don't have to say
anything this is great i just watched them go
and i was like oh yeah there is no some good gossip i
guess yeah yeah it is there is nothing few things more fun
when you get a local back then this was a
local show and i've been in local media uh
in the minneapolis twin cities uh area since 1997 so
there's nothing better than
when you get a whole bunch of media people together and they just talk
about people from different stations
and oh it's good gossip drama i sometimes share some with the
studio audience but that's right yeah sometimes i tell good stories
but yeah well you should throw
a dinner party somebody asked today that's funny
in the Jason show before the show show one of the
questions came in and I wasn't quite sure how
to answer it answer it I complimented you and then I
was like someone said who is the better cook between you
and Falun and I said you I don't
know if that's true because then someone I won't say
who on the staff goes Jake is the one that
cooks all the time no he's not that person is very wrong jake now cooks
because our schedules
have changed so he does like um he shoot well he
our dinner doesn't matter i did dinner for many
many many years but i usually jake doesn't like to cook dinner
so i usually will buy all the stuff
and send him the recipe and be like can you
do this thing if i'm not able to do it at home but
i typically do uh that's what i'm saying i see you follow
her on instagram you always do when you
try a recipe you always shoot it
and you share it yeah i i defer to you because i make a couple
things i can only make a couple things really well well
and one of the things you make really
well i don't think i'm good at which is steak
and i'm not i don't even try to make steak really i
make really good steak i make
and then obviously my biscuits i make a great breakfast um but and
then i make a coconut cake that people like
but that's that's about it i mean like if you want
to come over for biscuits coconut cake
and steak we're good yeah yeah we're gonna take a break
the hot dish
when we return back in a
moment everybody let's do
some hot topics, it's time
for the hot dish, here we go, I came into work today
and this is the first thing executive producer
Jeff said to me, two of the biggest pop stars
in the world are teaming up for what is sure to be
a huge hit, it's already a huge hit
so Olivia Rodrigo uh got Chappell Roan uh for her to join her
for a new remix of her song expectations, it dropped yesterday
and is already number one on
the YouTube, the video for the song uh features
the pair competing in old uh old school game shows
teamed up for this summer's uh women-led music fest
the Desert Chain Fields Festival, we now
turn to our music correspondent
and the host of Falun, Colton Jenny from KDWB, Falun you're our
official music correspondent.
A lot of great new music came out today.
Tate McRae has a new one as well.
But this song is really great.
I liked the song originally.
It's probably like my top three on Olivia's new album.
So I think Chapel made sense to add to the song.
When I listened to it, it kind of sounded
like they just took Olivia's song
and just layered Chapel over top of it
a little bit and then gave her a verse.
But I think it's good.
I could see it doing quite well.
I hope so.
I like Olivia Rodrigo.
I think she's probably a top three contender
for album of the year at the Grammys this
year with this album.
I always ask you this because, again,
all kidding aside, if you're watching this from
across the United States of America,
Falun hosts a top 40 morning radio show on KDWB.
So I always ask you this.
A lot of radio play on that one?
I think so.
Yeah, I mean, we've already played like three songs
from that new album pretty a lot.
So I would say this will definitely be a new one.
They're going to be pushing pretty hard.
and Chappell hasn't had a new song out since the subway
which she released last year, it's been
like a year since she's had a song out
so she scares me, yeah Chappell scares me, don't make drive
guy I know you'll be fine I don't want
to like photographers really anger her so if I ever
encounter her like at a waffle house you know
I'm just gonna like stay away like yeah yeah she
scares me anyway up next
a very public beef between two former co-workers you probably
remember the sitcom Mom on CBS it ran for eight seasons over there
and it was Anna uh Anna
Ferris and Allison Janney well Ferris left
the show after the seventh season and we've never
really found out why now the show's creator sitcom legend Chuck Lorre
is sharing some details in a new
book and it's a little messy
in the book Chuck said he didn't want Ferris on the show at first
but gave in he writes that after she left
his instinct was proven correct okay I'll give you
my opinion in a minute but anyway
so now Anna is of course responding on Instagram she said
I really didn't see that coming of course it hurts
for seven years I never took a day of the show uh
of the show for granted she then said she's been sober for a year
and a half ending with it gets
better I'm proof yeah I uh I think this is one of
those situations where just because you feel it
doesn't necessarily mean you need to share it
and it just also seems like a situation where
you're kicking someone now not that she's down
but you're kicking someone who's a little down
and trying to better themselves through
a very difficult addiction in any category is very
difficult it just seems I'll use
the word seems unnecessarily d-baggy yeah yeah i i saw that and
i kind of thought i i even thought
his kind of points felt contradictory that his gut
told him not to and seven seasons later he was proven right i'm like
so she gave you seven years
like that sounds like it was actually
a pretty good commitment um but also yeah the show fizzled
after she left um but i will say i thought anna anna
however you say it handled it very well
I thought she wrote it really respectfully,
like in an honest way that it hurt her feelings.
She actually values that time she had.
And also, if you go to the comments of her post, it's a lot
of huge actors and backup people from that TV show supporting her,
saying how amazing she was, how professional she was.
So I think, I don't know,
you've heard for years Chuck Lorre might be like not the easiest.
So maybe he's just proving his point that he, I don't know.
also that point also yeah
also i i know tv to piggyback as a final point off of what you said
seven years that's how long some shows last
and should the Mary Tyler Moore show ran for seven
years that's a great number that's nothing
to sneeze at and i don't know i just that anyway
next uh a new gig for Drew Barrymore
the talk show host is teaming up the talk show host is
teaming up with General Mills to bring
the annual Pillsbury Bake-Off to primetime tv
drew will host this year's competition
on november 23rd it's the first time in 12 years the
competition will be televised by the way you may
not uh well i'll get to that in a minute hi this
is what this is let me just my friends laurie
and julia call this let me hollywood speak this
you know what this is this is uh several things first
this is proof that we've run out of ideas
in tv this is number two number two this is proof
that the networks have no original ideas
because they look at what other networks are doing
and they go oh that's real popular let's
steal it because all this is is a cheap network tv version
of the Great British Baking Show that's
all this is cbs saw the fact cbs sees cbs sees
the numbers for netflix for the Great British
Baking Show and how it is uh uh leading in pop culture
and they thought well what can we do
uh other than Taylor Sheridan shows uh
so let's do Bake Off with Drew Barrymore who is their
utility player she's on Hollywood Squares she's
on the Drew Barrymore Show she pops up next to
Gail King i think you know what i mean i think she's
on Face the Nation sometimes and you know
I mean, it's like, you know, she pops up like all the time.
I think I think she's on 60 Minutes next week.
I mean, she's like, yeah.
Wow.
The 60 Minutes thing really got them.
Yeah, I liked it.
I agree.
They're just seeing what's working
and they're trying to copy and paste it.
And Drew is a likable person.
And that's what the hosts of the Great British Bake Off are.
They know she'll be kind to people.
So, yeah, I mean, Drew Barrymore is not going to go up to someone
and be like, your souffle sucks.
yeah i know yeah yeah yeah yeah
but i would love to see that though by the way uh you may not
realize that drew's first acting gig
was for Pillsbury back look at this everybody back in
1979 drew appeared in a Pillsbury commercial
and you're looking at it right there look at that
oh the little Pillsbury Doughboy
so cute oh i love that's what they used to call me in elementary
school that's right yeah but they replaced dough
with something else anyway yeah it's indiana next
from finding love on the bachelor to finding love
in a christmas movie joey uh kratza
grazade
whatever i
pull out
the wine cooler
when i'm not
feeling it yeah
what was his name i don't know okay what's his name
Joey is the star of a new movie coming to Roku he plays
a single firefighter turning up the heat
oh with the potential love interest watch
this is way more fun than I thought it was gonna be
yeah it's got those dreamy eyes that winning smile any less
of my jokes can I slide down the
pole we don't have one those are all
the good things yeah I feel like he's leading me on
I want to be here
But I think that's the third siren I heard
You have to go
I want to show up for this girl for the rest of my life
And here you are
You need to start running towards what you want
Instead of away from it
I learned something really interesting about fires
After doing some research
It all starts with a spark
I didn't really do the research yet on how to put it out
I want to keep this one burning
He was
ignoring the
fire alarm
I mean I just you know
Not to be overly practical about these movies
but he was so captivated by her yeah he
was into her somebody's house is burning get in there yeah
I don't know, I'll probably watch it. Oh, I probably, probably
The movie, the movie premieres November
2nd on the Roku channel, uh Joey is also
a contestant on the next season of The Traitors
over there on Peacock, yeah look I mean he's
not a bad looking guy, I mean I'm not into that anymore
but I mean you know I just say yeah are you
are you coming out on the show right now? Okay, okay
don't tell Colin, oh yeah tell
your husband, yeah yeah exactly. Up next, uh if you need something
new to watch this weekend, I gotta oh I'm
so excited, I got a chance, uh I know well you know
when I love something, I get excited, I get excited yeah, uh I got
a chance to watch, no don't
Don't leave me. Do not leave me, okay?
I got a chance to watch a new superhero series on Disney+.
But just stick with me, even if you're not a big superhero person.
Vision Quest is a spinoff from the big hit WandaVision.
It's actually part of a trilogy.
WandaVision, Agatha All Along, and now Vision Quest.
Paul Bettany is back as the superhero
who is on the run with the mysterious teen.
Okay, let me help you out.
Let your old friend Jason help you out.
I want to speak to you in, like, normal, non-Marvel language, okay?
Because I want you to like this show.
So let me give you everything you need to know to enjoy this.
Because, well, you'll hear my review in a second.
If you've never seen a Marvel show,
let me walk you through Vision Quest.
Here we go.
Vision is a robot.
Picture Alexa with a cape and a British accent.
Okay.
He's played by Paul Bettany.
A few years ago, he starred in WandaVision.
His wife is a witch named Wanda.
They lived inside old sitcoms like Bewitched,
The Brady Bunch, all of them.
Then Vision died and came back, and he was all white.
Now he has all of old Vision's memories, but none of the feelings.
It's kind of like watching your wedding video and thinking,
oh, my God, look at the nice centerpieces.
Anyway, so he goes looking for answers inside his own head.
And there's like a mansion full
of computer programs that look like people,
Like Siri and Alexa and the GPS lady all at one Thanksgiving table.
The worst guest is his evil robot dad, Ultron.
If that name sounds familiar,
it's because Ultron was the bad guy in an Avengers movie.
Back then he was voiced by James Spader,
and now he's actually played by James Spader in human form.
Then somebody puts a bounty on Vision.
He goes on the run with the teenage boy
who might be his son from The Witch reincarnated.
There we go.
That's going to do it
for us today.
Stay tuned.
Go out there and be yourself, everybody.
That's today's episode.
What just happened?
That was the non-Marvel speak?
You didn't understand what I just said?
There's something about a robot and a witch.
That's what I got.
A robot and a witch.
He's a robot.
He was married to a witch.
They made sweet, sweet love and then had this kid.
All right, I'm in.
And now, yeah, no, all kidding aside,
all jokes aside, this, I know a lot.
there's been a lot of Marvel shows that have
been a big miss since they started doing them on Disney
plus this is really good Eddie it is really good i
know you're gonna be like how is he gonna connect
this to this if you've never watched a single Marvel movie
y'all remember Sex and the City the
movie and no i know i know i told you stick
with me you know how in the beginning of Sex and the
city in the movie they tell you the outline
of basically every character so if you never watched
a single episode you could still enjoy
the movie they told you the beats about who Samantha is and
the beats of who Carrie is they do that in episode one
of this they walk you through what i just said
so that you can actually enjoy it you don't have
to feel like you have to do a lot of Marvel homework
it's just very original sharply written funny
and the the cast is fantastic and do not mark my word
you can take this to the bank the young man Rory
who plays the son he's the next big it guy okay
you can take that to the bank
and cash it yep there we go you can watch Vision Quest on Disney
plus oh it's back
it's back we'll
be right back back
in a moment welcome
back to the show uh
whether it's barking or pacing or licking
or chasing their tails it's all things jeff does
anyway yeah dogs can develop uh dogs can develop
their own little quirks but when those behaviors
are consistent it could be a sign that your pet has actually
a serious issue here with the best
dog training tips give it up
for KD Canine hello friend hey you how you doing good yourself
good whenever you're here
and again this is your first time this season so america uh we we have
new friends uh all across
so this is katie everybody katie's uh the best yeah thank you
right there yeah okay let's talk about the we always have a theme
and we'll get to question
a little bit compulsive behavior
in dogs what causes them people okay we're done we'll be right
back everybody yeah yeah it is um the biggest thing
is is people that have their dogs fetch
okay do you see dogs throwing balls
and sticks for each other okay so somewhere in the human world
we decided that we needed to teach the dogs
to you know go after something and bring it back
but then what happens everybody goes oh wow the energy level especially
when you get puppies you
know they're just okay i gotta wear the dog down
so i'm gonna throw it and throw it and throw it
okay so then what's happening is that the dogs
of a sudden the dog goes okay throw it again
throw it again and then people think that the dog
is having fun no what you're doing is you're
teaching the dog to just keep fetching
and keep that oh my dog loves this i was over at a client's
house one time we were talking
and she's pitching the ball i'm pitching the ball and i'm just
going to stop okay oh my dog loves it well dogs love to please us
and so the thing is by us keep
pitching that thing he's going to go
and you're wrecking the frame the hips the ACLs and they
think that because the puppy will do it
which really the problem is is under two their dog's
joints don't seal until two years old okay
and so people that want to try to run the puppy
you know energy out what you're doing is wrecking
their frame whereas you're going to have
a higher risk of ACL blowouts and hip problems
because they're powering off their hips and their
ACLs to go get that ball slamming on the brakes spinning
and then powering back to come to you
and their joints aren't sealed so then what's going
to happen is you're going to have early
arthritic dog and problems usually with their ACLs later in life
and so when you when you got dogs
under two you lob it and they trot out to get it
and then they trot back to bring it to you
they you don't power and the thing
is is that all you're doing is building an athlete
what used to tuck room in a half hour
then it was an hour then it's two hours and then they're
running marathons without break
and win here we are thinking that we're tiring them out we're
actually making the situation worse you got it you got it
and we're also debunking is there anything
more apple pie than the the image of the kid throwing
the stick for the dog and playing
play and fetch that's as that's as tied to having
a dog as having a dog yep and that's a human the
humans build the compulsiveness they sit in a chair pop a beer
and they're just but look at my
dog getting his exercise okay
and so yeah you got a beer in there my desk prigioner
but so and so that's why sometimes you throw it once
and stop and move on to something else
sometimes you throw it twice never more than three times at one time
and then some people you know
the electric uh what do you call the remote cars
and such like that there's some people that have
the dogs learn to chase that i think it's just
a riot that the dog is chasing the remote almost
like a cat does with a laser light you know
and then all of a sudden the dog's like okay where is
it and then dogs with the ball throwing stick throwing
and remote things they become chronic
fly chasers okay because dogs are prey driven
when it moves you're on it okay and so they become
fly you know there's a fly in the room or a bee
or whatever and then uh and shadow chasers because
that's all part of the compulsive disorder
if they don't know how they're
just they're always on okay what's going
to move what can I go go get but see
like and then plus people throw the ball okay
but the problem is is that if you
got a lab or bigger you know a bigger dog
with the with a tennis ball or
whatever okay then you're tired
and so you go in the house okay so then what
happens is that the dog is out there laying
on the ground going are in the
balls in his mouth that ball can slip
and get lodged back here and now your
dog is suffocating and you can't do a darn thing about it
and so i hate tennis balls you know if
the ball is bigger so it can't block that you know okay fine
but uh also you know tennis balls are
two C's put together and the slobber
from a dog you know scrunch it on it sounds like that it
breaks the seal and all of a sudden you've got two C's
and the dogs have swallowed part of these C's
and then what has happened there again it's got lodged in the throat
and then they suffocate oh
my goodness katie well people don't think about it
no that's why i'm glad you're here we didn't
think about any of this how about hey we have 30
okay we have 30 seconds a compulsive behavior i
want you to touch on and if uh
and that is jumping on people jumping on guests is that considered a
compulsive thing well no that's called
a human again human doesn't human doesn't train the dog
the manners you know because the dog wants to be up
into our face like hi there hi there okay so
you just got to learn remember stepping
on the leash yeah people come over put the leash on
step on it so if the dog goes to jump
on the thing he corrects himself or if he jumps up on you
thing you know you don't pin him to the ground depending
on how tall the dog is if the dog is
standing when you step on the leash
the dog's head just dips slightly okay but you don't want
to pin him to the ground but if you do that immediately
when somebody comes in the house
or when you're out walking you want to talk to somebody
and don't even give the dog the chance
to jump all of a sudden the dog learns to just kind of sit there
and just wait his turn because
we reward the behavior of jumping by even like
if people want our voice showing them we're happy
about it well that or like need them in the chest
or throwing off to the side the dog is like well
you play a little rough
but i'll play i'll play rougher you bet you bet and so that's why the
is to teach calmness everybody doesn't they run run run
the dog walk walk walk the dog
they don't know how to teach them calmness
and ultimately we want a calm dog yes we'll be right
back more with katie canine
right after this here katie
on my talk 1071 uh
let's welcome a special
guest you hear me talk about him all the time uh
my buddy photographer Eric well photographer Eric
has a third child please welcome Boo-Boo
that's right yes right there there's Boo-Boo there's
Boo-Boo and and there's uh his trainer Beebe that's right
so there's Boo-Boo okay now Katie uh he has
his comfort sweatshirt on um this should be off
immediately Katie why don't you like this i look
in the audience i don't see anybody with a jacket
on and the regular clothes he's got his regular
clothes on his fur then he's putting a jacket
on and if you put your hand underneath there he's
very warm you know and that's that's not this is not good
no we need a new dog take a yeah yeah
no we don't need a new dog yeah we just need
this jacket off take are you going to take it off right
we're going to undress the animal
or okay now well i love the bling Boo-Boo he does have bling
yeah yeah all right now let me ask you this Boo-Boo is here
because he has a behavioral problem what
does um he has a jacket on well the first problem
is he likes to poop in a conference room but other
than that yeah that was a fun conversation
with our general manager today anyway the second problem
is Katie I've been told by his owner photographer Eric he barks
at everything and he couldn't care
less about your ultimate tip the the coins in the can
and going and I call it the Katie canine
noise Katie canine noise
and it goes something like this Eric said he couldn't care oh he looked
at me with that noise though uh what what can Eric
do okay they have a new thing is this the only
dog he has it's the only dog he has yeah okay
so there's a it's not new it's been around for a long
time it's handheld ultrasonic sound devices they look like
a garage door opener and a lot of dogs
are sensitive to that and so you can look online look
at other reviews okay and when he goes to
bark you give the growl ah hit the button
and then say quiet okay he looked at you when you
made the Katie canine noise yeah
but that's it i speak dog i know yeah but anyway so it's
ultrasonic if the water doesn't work
then you try the ultrasonic sound okay and all of a sudden you
see them go like whoa what the heck was that okay it's
the sound they can hear that we can't
okay so you first don't you just don't hit
the button what you do is go ah the growl yeah thank
you and then and then uh quiet as you hit the button quiet okay
and so a lot of people just
want to run around and go like this but the dog's
not learning anything you want to teach the words
okay whereas just like with the bottles ah blast quiet
and then thank you okay and then now it's
going to be the ultrasound you notice i even shut my mouth yeah
and so now it's gonna be ah hit the
button quiet and so pretty soon you don't need you just need
to say quiet the dog's gonna be like
got it that's it okay no i'm not making
a joke here before we have to go uh for another break
is there a reason why he is listening to you make
the katie canine noise he paid attention to me
but he ignores eric like he's casper and it's probably
because he's not deep enough it's got
to be ah so eric has to bring his voice down a little bit the lower
and slower the the voices
the deeper doo-doo the dog's in right
and that's why most women i'm blessed with a low voice
i was a dog in a private life you know
but anyway um and so like i say most women
have the hardest time but guys like i said you got
to find that deepness the deepness is what
the main thing is the deeper
the growl they're see that's why probably why me
our dogs listen to me a little bit better than colin
because i have this voice voice yeah
the deeper the voice the more deep doo-doo
the dog thinks he's in uh katie's going to be answering
your questions
from our socials when we
return right after this paid
today before we get to
questions you wanted to because uh you wanted
to circle back on the jacket thing, the jacket thing
folks just because you have a jacket
on your dog doesn't need an extra jacket okay, he's already
got his jacket, he's got his coat, he's got his fat okay
when i was coming into the studio here
parking there was two people out there walking
their dogs in medium coats okay and they had a
jacket on similar to what boo-boos was and you're overheating the dog
and you're gonna have lung
problems not you personally the dog okay
because they're getting overheated on the walk and stuff
they already have their jacket they have
their fur now if you have a chihuahua or like a dover
you know with the super super short coats
but they're still they have their winter jacket coming
in now their coat follicles are getting thicker
and so now it's getting denser and so it protects
some against the weather
You know, just because you have a jacket or dress like Nanook of the
North doesn't mean your dog should be Nanook of the North too
Why do you think I love her? Okay
let's get, let's get some questions. First up, Nancy
Hey, Nance. I have a four-year-old Maltese
named Buddy. Recently, my friends have added new large puppies
to their family and Buddy is very
aggressive with them. He's fine with older dogs of any size
but seems to have issues with large
puppies how can we get them to play together okay well you got
to look at the short guys from their
point of view they're way down here okay and look up
and it's like land of the giants yeah okay and
so the thing is is that they want to protect their butt
and all little dogs go after big dogs faces
you ever notice they always lurch
for the face they're getting the dog to turn their head like
don't look at me don't look at me okay
and so that's why what you got to do is some of the
dogs are a little bit more assertive of it well
then on the little dog have the leash and if she
starts to get a little bit ornery just give the leash
a little tap hey hey hey you'd be nice you'd
be nice come here redirect the dog okay
and eventually some not all dogs like each other
not all people like each other so sometimes even
though you get a family ain't that the truth yeah
and so that's why you sometimes in the family you get
a family of dogs everybody's got a dog
and they get together and there's a couple of them
that is not so much well they pay attention
they just don't like each other yeah
but when you got the little ones you got to protect
they're basically understand them what
the world looks like from their point of view
this is a little a long one here
so i want to get to it kelly i have a seven month old
a 38 pound mixed breed pup we go on daily walks
but she still pulls like it's her job
i've tried the easy command marking
and rewarding loose leash of walking stopping turning around
tiny steps and the ax sound some methods work briefly
but then it's back to mission squirrel
and she will self-initiate a heel when i stop
but pulls again as soon as we move what am i
missing with a dog that pulls on a leash she doesn't have
the right training collar okay she
doesn't have katie canine
but no the thing is everybody is positive motivation treat treat
treat treat treat treat that gets you nowhere
that's bribery that is always overridden by just
the reward and so it's just thirty eight pounds i use
the star mark collar s-t-a-r-m-a-r-k you can get
online and anyway and so what it is is a plastic
and nylon and it's it's upside down pyramids on
the inside so it pokes the dog you know like
when they're being naughty you give the leash a
little flick not a crank but a flick
and they get poked it's just like if i want your attention i
poke you and if you don't give it
to me i poke you pretty soon you're gonna look at me what
katie yeah and so that's why unfortunately people want
to bribe the dog's attention back to them
that doesn't work they need a training class you know like i'm i'm
an archaic and because i don't
use treats treats do have its place in the training world
but not on a regular basis usually i don't
have to use a treat more than three times
to accomplish what i want and so what she needs is
to set up a private lesson
with Katie Canine, what will happen is that I can show you how to use it
correctly and then she'll learn to walk politely
and if you live in Florida, fly here
okay let's do one more. Next is Susan, is it possible
to train a quickly growing puppy not
to pee when they are excited to greet someone, will
my puppy grow out of it?
thank you Katie. Okay, okay, that has nothing
to do with peeing, it's called submission urination
what happens when the puppy's really happy
or really worried, like you're yelling at them
because they just peed, they're gonna pee again
and so what it is is building that dog's confidence
is, you know, you know he'll sit down, stay, you know
so the dog has some other things and don't
trip the trigger when you come
in the door, don't go oh yeah, pedal pedal pedal pedal pedal and when
and what you do is put the dog on a leash
You know, when people come over and you say,
ignore the dog, just walk on by.
Slowly let the people say hi.
Have the people sit down and then give little scooches.
But the minute you bend down like this, you're over the top of the dog.
the dog's like, woo, woo, friend of old, friend of old
So learn to sit down or just drop your shoulder.
side profile to a dog is a calming signal
So instead of coming like this, intimidation is side profile.
I pee when Jeff walks into a room.
