7-0-3 this morning and an update this morning about
a police shooting in Minneapolis involving a teenage suspect.
The BCA releasing new information about
the incident that happened last week.
Bill Keller joins us live in Minneapolis
with the very latest on that story. Bill, good morning.
Good morning, Tom and Hannah.
Well, we knew that the BCA had been conducting
this use-of-force investigation into last Thursday's police shooting.
They have now identified the officer involved
who opened fire on a suspect, they say,
rammed a stolen vehicle into the officer's squad car.
Now, according to their preliminary investigation,
Minneapolis police were responding to an armed carjacking.
This was near 31st and Pillsbury
when they got a report of a second carjacking just about a block away.
Now, after police were able to box in that suspect's vehicle,
two officers exited their squad car.
That's when they say the suspect sped backwards towards the officer,
striking their squad car and the parked vehicle.
Officers say that it is Officer Pedro Samir,
He's the one who fired a single shot at the suspect
who ran from police but was eventually arrested.
Crime scene investigators did recover a handgun at the scene,
and they identified that suspect as a 16-year-old boy.
Thankfully, nobody was injured.
The teenage suspect was taken to the Hennepin County
Juvenile Detention Center awaiting possible charges.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says the officer,
who fired his department issued gun has five years
of law enforcement experience and is now
on standard leave, the BCA says that once
the investigation is complete they will present
their findings to the Hennepin County Attorney's office
for final review. Back to you, okay Bill,
