3 children, 1 teacher killed in Oregon school shooting

All Oregonians mourn this loss today. This is a horrible day. We begin tonight with breaking news out of Oregon, where five people are dead and two others are critically injured following a shooting at an elementary school there. Thank you for joining us as we continue to cover this tragedy. I'm Randy Meyer. Let's get right now to Fox 9's So Young Kim, who's tracking the latest developments at this hour. So Young, this happened this afternoon. Tell us what we know tonight. Randy, the Bend community is grieving tonight. Within the last 90 minutes, authorities confirmed four victims were killed, including three children who were 5, 8, and 11 years old, and one teacher. Another child and teacher were taken to the hospital. This happened at an elementary school in Bend. That's about 160 miles southeast of Portland. Authorities received a call about a shot fired outside the school around 1 p.m. local time. Minutes later, they received multiple 911 calls that a shooter was inside the school. Authorities say a community member who saw the shooter enter the school with a long gun followed them and fatally shot them. Tonight, that person is being hailed as a hero. And to the community member who heroically intervened to stop further loss of life, your actions carry a heavy emotional burden and I just want you to know that my thoughts are with you as well. And a community vigil is being held tonight and all classes and activities have been canceled for tomorrow. The school district superintendent was emotional tonight speaking about the tragedy. Please hold your children, hold your loved ones tight tonight. Let them talk, let them cry, let them know we are going to rally and care for one another in this community. We will get through this, but not yet. We must grieve for the loss of our community members. And the shooter has been identified as a 16-year-old Bend resident, but no further information about their identity or motive has been released at this time. Randy.
