AI GeneratedMeteorologist Jared Piepenburg warns of a significant temperature drop overnight leading into Saturday morning, with potential freezes and frosts across Minnesota. While a chilly start is expected, the weather will quickly transition to breezy, milder conditions and a pleasant, sunny outlook for the coming week.
Meteorologist Jared Piepenburg on this Friday afternoon.
The breeze is backing off somewhat.
It's still out there.
Not as windy as it was this morning, but the sky has been clearing.
We'll continue to see that clearing.
It looks like we're just setting up
for a pretty chilly start for most of the area tomorrow.
We had some warnings, advisories pop up on your phone, potential frost,
and even the freeze for the southern half of Minnesota for tomorrow.
Let's just walk you through how this is setting up.
So, Friday afternoon, we still had
some gusts reaching into the mid-20s.
As we head into the evening, winds will taper off,
and at some point after midnight, potentially into tomorrow morning,
those winds will go pretty light,
but then they'll already start to pick up.
So we're going to have this little window here. We have the clear sky,
this cold air mass moving in, and then the winds going light.
And that combination, sometime overnight tonight into tomorrow morning,
will lead to those temperatures quickly dropping off,
potentially mid to lower 30s and even some upper 20s.
So if you have some plants you want to keep around here
as temperatures still look pretty warm
throughout the forecast, then maybe cover them up, bring them inside
as they could still be doing some flowering next week
as we could reach near 70 in a few days.
Tomorrow afternoon, though, we get breezy again.
Some gusts, upper 20s, not out of the question for your Saturday afternoon.
I wouldn't doubt if someone reports
a 30-mile-an-hour wind gust, maybe just above.
So not as blustery as what we had Friday morning,
but there's still going to be a breeze out there on Saturday.
That'll last Saturday night,
which will actually help temperatures to be not as cold.
So we've got one pretty chilly start,
and that is going to be Saturday morning.
With that breeze over Saturday night into Sunday morning,
they'll keep temperatures milder for this time of year.
And then Sunday, I'd still say it's going to stay a little bit breezy
until about midday, and then those winds will start to back off.
So at some point on Saturday morning through Sunday midday,
we're going to be kind of breezy out there.
Your Friday afternoon, though,
temps really aren't going to move much here.
The sky is clearing. We'll top off upper 40s to near 50.
overnight tonight chilly temperatures lower 30s
and maybe some pockets or two of some upper 20s
not out of the question Twin Cities will likely have
that urban heat island effect going on so
mid 30s may just be a fraction warmer than some
if you want to call that warmer but in comparison
so it'll be kind of chilly out there we have uh freeze warnings
for most of the purple shaded
area out there and the blue for the counties around
the metro we have the we do have our
frost advisories out there so we'll just have
to keep that in mind for tomorrow morning and then
tomorrow we'll get about 10 degrees warmer mid
and upper 50s to near 60 we'll get kind of breezy
but it's a south wind for tomorrow
and that'll help temperatures be a little bit warmer 50 to 60
to 67 we're still breezy at least for the first half
of the day on your sunday and then turning
out to be really really nice
and pleasant for almost the whole forecast there's one chance of
maybe some showers moving through
on wednesday otherwise pretty dry outlook with more sunshine
than clouds and our mornings will be much warmer
We just have that one chilly
start that we're looking at for tomorrow morning.
