Welcome back, everyone.
Well, Canopy Thrift in Sandy Springs is hosting its annual Fab
Friday sale, and proceeds are helping
the Community Assistance Center to fight hunger
and homelessness, so an amazing cause.
And our Chris Rosenthal is joining us out there with a
look at what we can find. It looks like Halloween Central.
That's where we need to go for our
costumes, Chris. Absolutely.
Costumes, clothing, furniture, you name it here. This is, they do
this Fab Friday every third Friday of the month.
They got all kinds of things. Like you said,
halloween they even got some some pretty cool socks
here uh some great great deals here everything
50 off uh furniture 25 off uh today and so uh
but this is all for a uh for a really good cause this
is all for the community assistance uh center
which does a lot of really great work uh here
in the community and to tell us a little bit more about
that i have francis horton here and francis
Tell me a little bit about Community Assistance Center
for those that may not know about it.
Well, we appreciate the opportunity.
CAC is working in the communities of Sandy Springs
and Dunwoody for about 40 years now.
Our mission is to prevent homelessness,
alleviate hunger, and help our clients to thrive.
And everything that you're seeing in here today
is all part of funding that operation.
It's really a shopping with a purpose.
So we provide financial assistance.
We provide the thrift store, foodstuffs,
adult education, and some career services as well.
We have some seasonal programs for our kids.
Yeah, you know, in the back, there's also a market there.
We work on a mini-market basis where people come
in and shop for themselves.
It's all free, but they come in and shop for themselves.
So mom can figure out what kids would eat,
and rather than me deciding, put it in a box and give it to her.
And this is for everybody to come shop here,
anybody in the community, but also your clients, too.
Yeah, this is a retail shop.
It's open for business six days a week.
We provide our clients vouchers.
They can come in and shop using those vouchers
and getting clothes and household items for their families,
as well as we've got a kid's corner, too.
And this generates quite a bit of money each year, huh?
It does.
Last year, that was about $400,000.
All of that goes back into our other programming.
So it really is shopping with a purpose.
It's more than just buying a $6 pair of pants or a $6 shirt.
Yeah, and this stuff, I mean, there's some really nice stuff,
some really high-end things here.
Yeah, this is our rack where we have
our new arrivals as well as brand-new clothing.
Many of the items on this rack still have the store tags on them.
So we think our thrift store is a little bit different
in a boutique sort of style.
We make sure that the quality of our goods is as high as we can
and make sure our clients are getting the best we can give them.
I went back to the back there,
and it takes kind of an army of volunteers
to get something like this going, huh?
It really does.
In fact, just for the thrift store operation,
we have about 115 volunteers that come in during the week
and serve various roles,
either here in the showroom or back in the back,
processing goods through to make it to the showroom.
It takes a lot of people to make it happen.
across the organization we use about 526 volunteers a month
so it's it's a big operation
how's it make you feel when you see all
these people here shopping and knowing this for
good cause here you know it's amazing
because i know that every dollar they spend is going into
helping members of our community
who are going through a tough time so this right here is is
the epitome of you you're buying something
for a real purpose you're buying something that's
going to make an impact in our community.
People want to donate. How can they do that?
What are you guys looking for?
Well, we have a donation door on the side of the building. You
drive all the way around it, you can see it.
We open six days a week for donations. Almost all
the time, all year round,
some of the major items that we need are kids' clothes, men's clothes.
We're always short on linens, sheets, towels,
curtains, those kinds of things as well.
those are all items we always need especially coming up
on the winter months we need winter
clothes for kids winter clothes for men gotcha
that's up here in sandy springs at uh at canopy
thrift store off roswell road um you can come
on up here shop for a good cause donate items as well
um lots going on here and this is over six days a week
but again fab friday here
