Volunteers across Gwinnett County rolling up their sleeves today
and they're doing this for Great Days of Service as it gets underway.
So our Maria Guzman is joining us with where they are, with what
the plan is and in what volunteers are going to be doing. Hey, Maria.
Hey, Liz. Good morning. You know, it's such a special day
and weekend because volunteers across the county are going
to be helping out doing several projects around the county.
And today, right here,
I am starting the day off at Parkwood Farms Therapy Center.
We have about 10 volunteers here.
They're doing several projects from painting to doing some building.
And I'm going to go ahead and flip my camera to introduce you guys
to two volunteers who have been hard at work this morning.
Hello, Ed and Harry.
Say hello.
Now, I walked in and you guys were hard at work with your power tools.
So talk to me about what are you guys doing today
and what you're assigned to.
Well, we're the carpentry crew for the day,
so we're trying to stay ahead of the painting crew.
what we're doing is is going around the barn here
and removing all the rotted sections of trim and
then we'll replace them with PVC trim gotcha now
do you guys have experience in carpentry i know
some people are doing painting
but you guys are here with the tools i've trimmed out of windows
before so this is very similar to it
so it's uh we have the tools for it awesome and you know ed
You said that you don't live in Gwinnett County,
but you work here and you said, I want to be part of this.
So talk to me about so far your experience.
What time did you arrive here
and what really led you to say, I want to join in?
Yeah, it started probably a couple of weeks ago.
Great Days of Service is broadcasted through
our emails at Gwinnett County.
I work for the water department and I signed up for it
and doing the carpentry work I thought
would be fit what my skills are.
So I chose to do that,
came with my tools and we met about nine o'clock this morning
and started and divvied up into crews.
There's a painting crew that was coming around
the corner here right behind us and we're
trying to stay ahead of them.
And our goal today is to finish this trim with some PVC,
get rid of these rotted boards.
Gotcha.
And give it a fresh, clean look here at the farm.
Got it.
And now that you guys know each other already,
are working on this together.
Just met up today with a lot of these other folks here
that showed up.
So we probably have a crew of 10 or 12.
Yes. That's awesome.
So everyone has a different kind of task going on at once.
Also, so the teamwork is fully on the mode here right now.
So, again, this is just one of several projects
that are happening across the county.
You still have a chance to sign up if you want to volunteer,
and you're able to go to the Gwinnett Great Days of Service.
So I'll send things back to you guys.
Yeah, we appreciate all of the hard work that they're doing.
Maria, thanks so much for showing that off for us.
We appreciate it.
