The Weather Center with Mike Rizzo.
We got to talk about rain and storms later too. We do.
We have rain and storms coming through later tonight.
That could be strong to severe. The rundown for today is as follows.
This morning we have light rain and drizzle.
We have midday sunshine and warm weather.
We have severe thunderstorms after 5 p.m. It turns windy into tomorrow
and it'll be cold and chilly all weekend long
with coldest temperatures yet on Sunday morning.
Upper 20s north and west. So here's our thunderstorm threat for today.
Statewide we have what's called a
level two risk which is a scattered chance
or chance for scattered severe storms i should say
storms are coming through in a line
so everyone's going to get rain but not everyone might see a
severe storm severe storms will be capable
of producing winds up to 60 miles per hour hail
less than an inch in diameter
and a tornado is possible in more communities when compared to
yesterday's initial forecast based off of the way
the atmosphere had uh evolved over the last 24
hours. In northern and central New Jersey,
there is that elevated risk which a few or stray
tornadoes could develop as a result
of some rotating thunderstorms that approach our area
after 5 p.m. till about 8 o'clock tonight.
Not all storms will see it, but some rotating
thunderstorms could be capable of producing
a tornado later on this evening. That's important
for you to just be aware of.
The first 15 minutes of this weather is going to be the worst part of it
OK, see how thin this line is. This isn't like
a rainmaker where it's going to rain like for hours after.
This is the initial thump of the storm. The edge of the storm
as it hits your town is going to be the most abrasive part.
And I want to emphasize this.
It's the first 10 to 15 minutes that are just going to,
well, not be pleasant.
As this passes by, we end up with a situation where it turns into
showers as it makes its way into southern New Jersey tomorrow morning.
So tomorrow morning,
there could be some showers into the southern zones.
Why? The front slows down.
And as the front slows down, you're going to see
that concentrated line of storms kind of just spread out.
And that's what you're getting
in South Jersey tomorrow morning, where it's 51 degrees.
As the showers wrap up tomorrow,
we end up with a beautiful day, but windy and colder.
So I want you to be aware, the temperatures do take a bit of a tumble
as we head into Saturday night
into Sunday with lows in the 30s and 20s.
Mike, thank you.
