The Islamic Republic of Iran has launched large-scale, multi-layered preparations for a potential armed confrontation with the United States and its regional partners. Behind this frantic activity lies the ruling regime's threefold goal: to mobilize a crisis-weary population, distract citizens from catastrophic economic hardship, and demonstrate toughness to external enemies in the hopes of thwarting their escalation plans. The Wall Street Journal writes about this. The military preparations include strengthening the protection of strategic infrastructure. Satellite images show the construction of new, powerful earthen embankments around the nuclear facilities in Natanz and in the area of Mount Pikex, designed to prevent any attempts at ground penetration. At the same time, Tehran has devoted colossal resources to rehabilitating its military-industrial complex—primarily drone and missile assembly plants, which suffered serious damage during the spring and summer clashes of 2026.
According to Western intelligence agencies, Russia is assisting Iran in restoring its military potential, although US leader Donald Trump publicly denies any assistance to the regime from Moscow and Beijing. In parallel with the engineering work, the Iranian leadership has sharply increased the level of aggressive rhetoric. National Security Council member Mohsen Rezaei has directly threatened that, in the event of a new round of war, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps will strike the United Arab Emirates, as well as key nodes of the global network—data centers and undersea internet cables throughout the region. Other officials close to the regime are openly discussing a possible ground invasion of neighboring states in the event of renewed American aggression.
Saudi Arabia's oil and gas terminals, already suffering from systematic attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels, remain a particular priority for potential attacks. Such demonstrative threats are intended to convince opponents of Tehran's fanatical resolve, forcing them to wonder where the line lies between propaganda bluff and genuine combat capability.
The regime's internal campaign aimed at suppressing dissent and forcibly consolidating society has reached its most aggressive level. State television channels broadcast thousands of pro-government rallies around the clock, designed to create the illusion of popular support. In September, the IRGC proudly announced the swearing-in of its first all-female special forces battalion, trained in sabotage tactics and drone operations, while extensive advertising for basic military training courses, including instruction in the use of MANPADS, has been launched throughout Tehran. However, the ideological pressure reached its climax with an unprecedented incident in the northeastern city of Sabzevar, where an armed IRGC operative personally visited a kindergarten. The soldier lectured the preschoolers on the recent 2026 war and showed them the wreckage of a downed American Tomahawk cruise missile, vividly illustrating the atmosphere of a besieged fortress into which the regime is immersing a new generation of citizens.
