Mother, stepfather accused of beating 9-year-old girl to death

A Paulsboro mother and stepfather have been charged with murder in the death of a 9-year-old girl after authorities said they falsely claimed the child had been struck by a vehicle while walking a dog.

Authorities said the incident began around 1 a.m. Tuesday, when 45-year-old Sean Scott called 911 to report that a 9-year-old was not breathing after being hit by a car.

"Sounds like CPR is in progress. Caller is advising my partner that the 9-year-old may have been hit by a car and is now in cardiac arrest," a dispatcher said in radio traffic.
