Welcome to your Thursday afternoon.
I'm meteorologist Keith Marler. Thank you for
clicking on Fox Local for this wet little start
to the weekend as we go on into the four-day
weekend for a lot of school kids.
It's not exactly the best for any outdoor plans for
the day-to-day. No real true pumpkin picking.
At least it's not heavy rain. A lot of folks,
a lot of light rain to be had. A lot of light,
then occasionally moderate bursts,
at least on the northern edge of it,
which is kind of where the Twin Cities lives. That's
not to say that northern Minnesota isn't getting any.
You've had plenty of that light rain through
the morning hours now that we're sliding through
the afternoon there's not a ton left over for the
northern part of the state overall you picked up
a few hundredths to a tenth of an inch in the north
you've done the same thing through the morning here
in the Twin Cities a few hundredths to around
a tenth but southern Minnesota already along
the I-90 corridor from Albert Lea to the southwest
or to the west from Albert Lea
that is um some folks uh near Fairmont two-thirds of an inch
uh already by lunchtime today
and that continues to add up a little bit so anywhere from a half
inch to three quarters of an inch maybe some isolated inches
in southeastern Minnesota as the
rain continues to spread through the afternoon
but by the late afternoon and into the evening
cold front sweeps across the state
and shuts things down from the northwest to the southeast
and here in the metro we'll start to see things wrap up
on either side of sunset sun goes down a
little before 6:30 maybe a couple of stragglers here
and there after the sun goes down blustery
through the night tonight the winds really pick up
the radar is going to flare through the night
But with those breezes, it's a drying wind, so the area
of low pressure is going to still try to keep things tumbling.
I don't know what's going to make it to the ground there.
It'll be very light regardless.
But some oddball drips are going to try to bring some off
and on rainfall through the night tonight in those breezes.
And that could linger even
into some little pesky little spritzes tomorrow morning early.
Then we break through of that and the cloud
cover will start to break by mid-morning.
And then the breezes, they don't go anywhere.
Even though the sun comes back,
we stay blustery and gusty through the day on Friday.
With the sunshine, the sun is not enough to warm us up,
so we're going to struggle.
After highs that stay steady in the low 50s today
and the 40s tonight, not a big change,
we do our best to even warm to 50 tomorrow.
A lot of the state just stays in the 40s
with that aggressive northwestern blow.
Sustained winds to 25 miles per hour,
gusting to 30 or 40 miles per hour.
That is fall.
Coming to pay a visit and blow a lot of the leaves off
the trees on a beautiful Friday afternoon,
then the winds die off and we get calm Friday night
and Saturday morning clear sky calm winds
already a chilly afternoon you can read it frosty conditions frozen
for some we'll end up with frost
advisories and freeze warnings I'm sure
a large chunk of the state and even the metro
is under the threat for that heading
into our Saturday morning in particular just a heads up
there tender vegetation we've got to take care of it
but then the winds come back quite aggressively
through the day on Saturday but out of a warm source
and that southwesterly to southern flow
15 to 25 miles per hour, probably some gusts.
that'll bring a warm source, probably a fire
danger issue for western and southwestern Minnesota,
rural Minnesota especially, greater
Minnesota. That brings back some warmer air
and we're going back above average. High is back around
60, 60 plus. Heading in through the rest of the weekend,
maybe even teasing a 70 for next week.
So we put it all together on a forecast.
This is the big fat duh because you just look out your
window and you, well yeah, it's damp. It's raining.
Yes, that's the day. Temperatures already have
touched 52 so it's easy when you say 52
is your high turning breezy tonight 44 for your overnight low
clouds linger the rain dries up to a few patchy weirdo drips tonight
and then we'll keep those
around but even fewer of them tomorrow morning early
the clouds break free by mid
morning or so and then it's back to sunshine blustery winds
though i don't know if that was
me being excited or if that was a sound
of the wind either way struggling to go high around 50
we can calculate a wind chill though
when we're in the 40s i don't know that we'll want to
I might do it frosty conditions Friday night
into Saturday morning widespread temperatures in the
20s and 30s across the state and then the breezes come back to visit
but from a different direction
out of the south and that'll blow in the warm 60 degrees
with sunshine on Saturday that would be
above average bright mid 60s to mid to upper 60s Sunday into Monday
and then teasing the 70 degree
temperatures Tuesday into Wednesday
and again upper 60s to near 70 will continue from most of
the end of the work week for next week.
Have a great Thursday afternoon. Just stay dry as you
go on about your business.
